Gor Mahia have released their home, away and third kits for the 2024-2025 FKF Premier League season which as expected, elicited mixed reactions from their fans and indeed from supporters across board. The jerseys have been designed by Tanzanian celebrated designer Sheria Ngowi who landed the deal to be the club’s official designer back in July. The designer, on his social media handles, explained the reason behind the design of the kits. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8370676##”The official colour of the jersey is black (symbolizing the African heritage and the Luo community) featuring a monogram logo with the initials “GM” where the “G” is small and the “M” (Gor Mahia) is large. This represents the ups and downs the club has gone through to reach where it is today becoming one of the oldest and most famous clubs in Africa. Founded in 1968, the club has over 56 years of history and holds 21 domestic league titles in Kenya a level of success no other club in the country has ever achieved. The away kit features the initials “GM”, which stands for Gor Mahia emblazoned on the shoulders in a unique pattern. This design is not just an aesthetic choice but a deliberate reminder to the players and coaching staff of the immense responsibility they carry on their shoulders.AFC Leopards goalkeeper Levis Opiyo blames ‘juju’ for derby mistakes, vows to end Gor Mahia’s dominanceThe home kit in Gor’s traditional green features an aerial map of Kisumu, as well as a powerful design which symbolizes the waves of Lake Victoria!”The home jersey will have a slight change and deviation from the traditional green suit to a green shirt coupled with black shorts and black socks. The away kit is equally a deviation from the norm and will see K’Ogalo put on white shirts with green shorts and green socks.##NAJAVA_MECA_8370691##The away kit has totally changed from the blue suit to a black jersey for the first time. Perhaps this is a result of the complaints by fans that the blue belongs to their arch-rivals AFC Leopards.Fans took to social media to express their opinions on the new jerseys and we sampled some of them in this article according to the home, away and third kits.“I think the designer failed with the shorts. He would have made it green with a little splash of black just like he did with the top. Not that bad either, a 7/10 is so fair for it,” said Okumu Samuel Carvajal.Gor Mahia duo indefinitely suspended, set to face disciplinary committeeOkumu’s thoughts were similar to many fans who took issue with the black shorts for the home kits.“Why are we abandoning our traditional green and white colour?” posed Rooney Pele.“Everything should be green with a touch of white,” said Leo Yugi.##NAJAVA_MECA_8370706##Kenneth Obok also did not support the deviation from the traditional green suit by the designer.“How did we come from all green to blending with black? Does the designer know the club’s history?”Perhaps Fredrick Omondi Odundo’s thoughts summarize the sentiments of most of the fans who did not welcome the black short.CAF announce major format change in 2024 CHAN tournament“What are the black shorts doing there? As a home kit, we need to maintain our traditional green,” he stated.Kenny Mosh on the other hand was not pleased with the size of the kit manufacturer’s logo.“Why is the logo of the designer/manufacturer as big as the club’s crest? This is a miss for me,” he said.##NAJAVA_MECA_8370690##Some of the fans were impressed with the home kit though, like Isaac Owiti.“The kits are good. At least we break the monotony this time round like it happens in European leagues.”His thoughts seem to be in tandem with those of former Kenyan international Mathew Ottamax who played for Gor Mahia and was also a goalkeeper coach at the club some few years ago.🚨OFFICIAL🚨Gor Mahia’s 2024-25 Third Kit is here! 🙌Crafted for Greatness, Designed for Champions @OfficialGMFC 🤝THIRD KIT.The official color of the jersey is black (symbolizing the African heritage and the Luo community) featuring a monogram logo with the initials “GM”… pic.twitter.com/IDJQAjxDZ0— SHERIA NGOWI ™ (@SheriaNgowi) September 26, 2024 “Black is oriented in obtaining power, ultimate power at any cost even if it means paying it with life. I have played and worked for K’Ogalo and so I know what it takes to achieve power and titles at the club,” he saidThe away kits on the other hand seem to have largely been accepted by the fans especially because of the sleeve design which has the initials ‘GM’, an abbreviation of Gor Mahia.“This should have been the home kit.
