Is Metto seeking a third term at Sports Kenya?

Sports Kenya Director General Pius Metto is reportedly seeking a third term at the organization’s helm.According to sources, Metto has already written to Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, requesting an extension for a third term. He is expected to step down early next year at the end of his second term, in line with the regulations governing Sports Kenya.##NAJAVA_MECA_8369728##Metto was first appointed in 2019, and his contract was renewed in 2022. The regulations stipulate that “the Director General shall hold office for a term of three years, renewable only once, and on such terms and conditions of employment as Sports Kenya may determine.”Despite these clear regulations, Metto has asked Murkomen to extend his contract, and it is believed that the request is being considered.“He wrote the letter two weeks ago, and Murkomen is considering extending his contract for an initial year, with the possibility of a further extension,” said a source familiar with the matter. The source added that if Metto was planning to step down, he should have already gone on leave, with three months remaining before the end of his term.“The law is very clear. He should be starting his terminal leave now in preparation for stepping down in January,” the source stated. However, when contacted, Metto denied requesting a third term. He clarified that he had written to the Sports Kenya board to inform them of the expiration of his contract in January.“I am not aware of any plans for a third term. I have written to the board about the end of my current contract. As Director General, I am not required to go on terminal leave before stepping down,” he explained.FKF Premier League clubs at risk of losing millions as KBC FTA deal hangs in balance
