Bayern Munich are a lot of things and among them, they are unbeatable. The Bavarians are proud owners of the longest unbeaten streak in Champions League group/league phase with 41 games without a defeat (37 wins, four draws). But they face a tough test tonight as they are about to play against a team which coach they tried to ‘poach‘ at the end of last season – Unai Emery. Current Aston Villa boss was once on the Bayern Munich‘s shortlist, but director Max Eberl soon found out that the Spaniard is off the charts for several reasons. First of all he signed a contract with Villa until June 2027, and the Birmingham club paid compensation in the amount of 7,500,000 euros for bringing him from Villarreal, which means Bayern would have to play even more. Than, even stronger reason – Emery is an old fashioned ‘manager‘, like sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger used to be. That means that he has the last word on everything – from the first to the youth team, from transfers to contract decisions. In Bayern Munich there are a lot of decision makers and the biggest one is Uli Hoeness, the ‘grey eminence‘ of the Bavarians and he certainly wouldn‘t allow any coach to have so much saying in things connected to Bayern. And the last obstacle was connected to the minority owners. In 2015 Villa co-owner Nassef Sawiris took a six per cent stake in sportswear giant Adidas, who also have an 8.33 per cent share in Bayern. And if the Bavarians tried to sign Emery, there would be unrest.Bayern Munich fans are raging: Stop fooling around with our kits! So, after a few rejections, the Munich giant finally found a coach – fifth choice Vincent Company, who is prefect so far. With six wins in six games (by an aggregate score of 29-3), the Belgian officially has better start as any other Bayern coach in the Bundesliga era. They are also well prepared to keep their invincibility in the Champions League, as no less than seven Bayern footballers have experience playing in England. New leader Jamal Musiala was a Chelsea youngster before coming to Germany, but there are others too: Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Serge Gnabry (Arsenal & West Bromwich Albion), João Palhinha (Fulham), Leroy Sané (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham) and electric summer signing Michael Olise (Crystal Palace), not to to mention that coach Kompany won four league titles with Man City and coached Burnley. But it was Unai Emery who delivered the most unexpected defeat to Bayern in years: a quarter-final loss in 2022 when the Spaniard was coaching small Villarreal.UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 2TuesdaySalzburg – Brest 0-4 (0-1)/Sima 24, 70, Camara 66, Lage 76/Stuttgart – Sparta Praha 1-1 (1-1)/Millot 7 – Kairinen 32/Leverkusen – Milan 1-0 (0-0)/Boniface 51/Dortmund – Celtic 7-1 (5-1)/Can 8 pen, Adeyemi 11, 29, 42, Guirassy 40 pen, Nmecha 79 – Maeda 9/Barcelona – Young Boys 5-0 (3-0)/Lewandowski 8,51, Raphinha 34, Martinez 37, Camara 81 og/Inter – Crvena Zvezda 4-0 (1-0)/Calhanoglu 11, Arnautovic 59, Martinez 71, Taremi 81 pen/Arsenal – PSG 2-0 (2-0)/Havertz 20, Saka 35/Slovan B. – Man.City 0-4 (0-2)/Gundogan 8, Foden 15, Haaland 58, Mcatee 74/PSV – Sporting 1-1 (1-0)/Schouten 15 – Braganca 83/Wednesday19:45: (2.10) Girona (3.60) Feyenoord (3.60)19:45: (5.30) Shakhtar (3.60) Atalanta (1.70)22:00: (5.30) Dinamo Zagreb (3.60) Monaco (1.70)22:00: (6.00) Lille (4.10) Real Madrid (1.55)22:00: (3.00) Benfica (3.45) Atl.Madrid (2.50)22:00: (4.60) Aston Villa (3.80) Bayern (1.75)22:00: (2.40) RB Leipzig (3.45) Juventus (3.15)22:00: (1.20) Liverpool (6.75) Bologna (14.0)22:00: (2.80) Sturm (3.40) Club Brugge (2.65)***odds are subject to change***
