Not yet time to press panic button – Mathare United’s CEO after tough start

Promoted Mathare United are still struggling to pick up their first win of the season after four matches in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).The club has soaked in nine goals and scored just once and are placed 14th on the log with just two points.Despite the circumstances, the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jacktone Obure says it is not yet time to press the panic button.Kenyatta keen to turn Homeboyz’ fortunes around after the breakObure argues that the calibre of teams they started with was not easy but they look forward to settling down and picking positive results going forward.“It has not been an easy start for us. But when you look at the teams we started against, it was somehow expected when you consider that we have just returned to the league and most of our players are inexperienced at playing at this level. For that reason, we are not panicking. We are relaxed and are looking forward to turning things around,” he said. The Slum Boys lost 4-0 to AFC Leopards in their opening match of the season, then drew 1-1 against Sofapaka at home before picking a barren draw against Kakamega Homeboyz away.Last weekend, they lost 4-0 to league champions Gor Mahia at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.“We are hoping that after the international break, our players will have settled and learned something from the four matches,” said Obure.Mathare United head coach John Kamau also alluded to the superiority of Gor Mahia after the huge defeat saying the match had been lost after they conceded the first goal.“I think we lost concentration after the first goal. It is a tough result because, for the first 40 minutes, we were still in the game and had neutralised their strengths,” he said.Kamau also expressed confidence that the team will remain in the top-tier despite the poor start. The team, once a cradle of talented players in the country had fallen on hard times and was relegated two seasons ago only to come back this season under the guidance of former Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi. But Kimanzi did not stay to coach them in the top tier as he left to join Tanzanian side Dodoma Jiji FC and was replaced by Kamau who is serving his second stint with the club.Mathare United next face Bidco United after the international break.##EDITORS_CHOICE##
