Deniz the Dragon slayer: Bosnia impose no threat to inspired Germany

Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany extended their unbeaten run to three matches since the summer’s UEFA European Championship, securing a narrow 2-1 win on the road against Bosnia and Herzegovina, courtesy of a brace from Deniz Undav.Ranked 75th in the FIFA world rankings, the Dragons of Bosnia struggled to match the pace and quality of their visitors, the UEFA Euro 2024 quarter-finalists. Germany quickly took command of the match, building a two-goal advantage by halftime. The opener came when Florian Wirtz expertly set up the in-form Undav, who unleashed a powerful shot from 12 yards out, beating Bosnia’s goalkeeper, Nikola Vasilj. Undav, who has been in fine form with four goals in six Bundesliga appearances, doubled his tally before the interval by slotting home a cross from Maximilian Mittelstädt.With a comfortable lead, Germany maintained control in the second half, continuing to create chances. Mittelstädt remained a key threat down the left wing, delivering dangerous crosses into the box. At one point, it seemed as though Undav had completed his hat trick after connecting with another Mittelstädt delivery, but a prolonged VAR review ruled him narrowly offside, nullifying the goal. The disallowed goal gave Bosnia a glimmer of hope, and they responded with renewed energy. They managed to pull one back with 20 minutes remaining, as Edin Džeko, their veteran forward, headed in from a set piece, outmaneuvering his marker and sending the ball past Alexander Nübel. Despite the late push, it wasn’t enough for Bosnia to turn the match around, leaving them still searching for their first win in Group A3.UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE AThursdayIsrael – France 1-4 (1-2)/Gandelman 24 – Camavinga 6, Nkunku 28, Guendouzi 87, Barcola 89/Italy – Belgium 2-2 (2-1)/Cambiaso 1, Retegui 24 – De Cuyper 42, Trossard 61/FridayHungary – Netherlands 1-1 (1-0)/Sallai 32 – Dumfries 83/B&H – Germany 1-2 (0-2)/Dzeko 70 – Undav 30, 36/Saturday19:00: (1.63) Croatia (3.80) Scotland (5.70)21:45: (5.50) Poland (3.90) Portugal (1.63)21:45: (2.65) Serbia (3.25) Switzerland (2.95)21:45: (1.40) Spain (4.60) Denmark (8.00)Monday21:45: (1.65) Germany (3.80) Netherlands (5.40)21:45: (3.00) Belgium (3.40) France (2.35)Tuesday21:45: (5.20) Scotland (3.80) Portugal (1.75)21:45: (1.30) Spain (5.80) Serbia (12.0)***odds are subject to change***
