Kakamega Homeboyz defender John Omondi says the club’s sluggish start to the season is due to a managerial transition.Prior to the start of the current season, Homeboyz management made changes to its technical bench, bringing in coach Ken Kenyatta and Duncan Otieno to take over the squad after title-winning tactician Patrick Odhiambo and his assistant Jeffers Odongo left for KCB.Since then, the 2023 Mozzart Bet champions have experienced one of the slowest starts to a season since their promotion a decade ago.CECAFA U20: Wangaya shines as Rising Stars keep AFCON qualification hopes aliveHomeboyz, based in Kakamega and currently playing at Mumias Complex owing to renovations at Bukhungu Stadium, have been a shell of themselves, recording only two points out of a possible 12.The 2021-22 season runners-up have posted two draws and two losses in the first four matches of the 2024-25 FKF Premier League season.Homeboyz were humbled 3-0 on the opening day by newbies Mara Sugar, then drew twice in a row against Mathare United and Tusker before falling 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks a fortnight ago.”I believe our sluggish start to the season was caused by changes on the technical bench. We are in a new learning period to adopt the coach’s ideology, which takes time and, I feel, has contributed to our current situation,” he stated. The former Kariobangi Sharks defender also points out that the club’s dismal start might be attributable to inadequate pre-season training.##NAJAVA_MECA_8412310##”We did not have adequate off-season preparations prior to the start of the league. We resumed late for training, and the coach and his assistant joined us much later, three weeks before the season began,” he explained. The former APS Bomet player goes on, “Certainly, the coach did not have time to lay out his structures and ideas for the year, and we were bound to struggle. I can equally attest to this as one of the other reasons for our struggles two months into the season.” Despite the terrible start, Omondi, who can also play as an attacker, is confident that the club will soon return to winning ways.Who gets the nod to go for FKF’s top seat?”I am convinced we are virtually at full fitness. The league intervals in between have been a blessing in disguise, and I am certain we are finally prepared to compete,” concluded the former Compel FC defender.Abana Beingo’s next fixture after the FIFA break will be an away encounter against league leaders KCB on Sunday 20, October.
