Another defeat from Dortmund – BVB is out of the Cup

Nuri Sahin is living on the razor’s edge. Rookie Dortmund coach got all he wanted this past transfer window, he was backed by both the club‘s directors and the fans, but the former Borussia player is heading towards a certain sack. He was given ‘full support‘ just days ago, and in modern times ‘full support‘ usually means sack in the next few games. And after the humiliating 5-2 defeat from Real Madrid (they were leading 2-0 until the 60th minute), a shocking 2-1 loss to Augsburg followed (they were leading 1-0). And tonight, BVB failed to defeat 14th placed Wolfsburg and crashed out of the German Cup in overtime: Wolfsburg – Borussia 1-0.It‘s just October, but Dortmund is already ouf the race for any trophy in 2024/25. The Bundesliga battle is way above them, they just went out of the Cup from at team which won only one of the last 18 competitive meetings with Dortmund, and nobody believes that Dortmund can win the Champions League. So, the players are not fighting only for the fourth spot, which leads to another season in UEFA‘s most important competition. Tonight, they didn‘t played well, their best striker Serhou Guirassy, who has seven goals in nine competitive appearances for Dortmund missed two headers and Maximilian Beier hit the woodwork in the 13th minute. Şahin has numerous absentees to contend with ahead of this clash. Karim Adeyemi, Yan Couto, Julian Duranville, Giovanni Reyna and Niklas Süle were all unavailable, but still had strong enought team to defeat Wolfsburg who managed only one win in the last five games. They failed. The biggest chance in the entire half came from the visitors in the 13th minute, when Maximilian Beier hit the woodwork. Until then, Borussia fans were just waiting for that first goal, but soon after this miss, the home team decided to push the gas and totally took over the game. From than on, the confidence level of Dortmund players was very low, but Wolfsburg couldn‘t capitalize on that. They did have their chances, but Wimmer just missed the goal in the 19th minute, and Kobel saved Amoura’s shot 15 minutes later. The second half also started with Dortmund‘s chance in the 52nd minute, as Gross made a nice cross to the penalty area, but Guirassy was not precise and his header went over the bar. The Guinea striker had even better chance ten minutes afterwards, and this time his header was going into the goal but Wolfsburg‘s keeper Grabara tipped the ball and deverted it to the corner. As for the home team, they had two nice opportunites. In the 86th minute, Wind took a shot ove the bar from close range and in injury time, Maehle suddenly came into the penalty area but Kobel was prepared and blocked his shot before the game went into overtime. The home team had a massive chance in the first overtime, but Tomás‘s shot hit the bar. In the second overtime, the home team had another opportunity to win, but Wind‘s header went near the right post. The player however became the hero of the night in the 117th minute, when he scored the winner.DFB POKAL – GERMAN CUPRound of 32Tuesday Augsburg – Schalke 3-0 (1-0)/Claude-Maurice 26, Maier 87, Essende 90/K.Offenbach – Karlsruher 0-2 (0-2)/Zivzivadze 61, Beifus 72/Leverkusen – Elversberg 3-0 (3-0)/Schick 2,9, Garcia 36/RB Leipzig – St.Pauli 4-2 (3-1)/Baumgartner 17, Poulsen 12, 30, Nusa 80 – Guilavougi 28, Smith 58/Jahn Regensburg – Greuther Furth 1-0 (0-0)/Bulic 59/Koln – Holstein Kiel 3-0 (1-0)/Lemperie 8, Waldschmidt 84, 90+7/Stuttgart – K’lautern 2-1 (1-1)/Woltemade 14, Fuchrich 75 – Tomiak 43/Wolfsburg – Dortmund 0-0 (0-0) ET 1-0/Wind 117)Wednesday 20.00: (1.80) Eintr.Frankfurt (4.20) M’ gladbach (3.80)20.00: (1.50) Freiburg (4.20) Hamburger (5.50)20.00: (2.95) Hertha (3.50) Heidenheim (2.35)20.00: (3.15) Paderborn (3.60) Werder (2.20)22.45: (5.40) Bielefeld (3.70) Union Berlin (1.60)22.45: (2.50) Dinamo Dresden (3.45) Darmstadt (2.75)22.45: (1.40) Hoffenheim (4.80) Nurnberg (7.75)22.45: (9.00) Mainz (5.90) Bayern (1.30)***odds are subject to change***
