Details of first-ever CAF Goalkeeping Course in Kenya

FKF in partnership with Africa’s football governing body is undertaking the first-ever Elite CAF Goalkeeping Course in the country as part of its ongoing capacity building.The course is being attended by 30 goalkeeper trainers in the country composed of among others, goalkeeper trainers from the national teams, FKF Premier League, a couple from FKF Women Premier League and some from the National Super League (NSL).Disappointing outings for Harambee Stars duo in South Africa and RomaniaThe four-day course began on Tuesday 29 October and will run to Friday 1 November at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) under the tutelage of renowned FIFA/ CAF expert Alejandro Hereida.The training is aimed at equipping goalkeeper trainers with skills that will enable them to conduct their drills and training in an elite and informed manner, all with an aim of making improvements in that part of the pitch and football in general.##NAJAVA_MECA_8457039##Prior to this, a majority of goalkeeper trainers had the general CAF coaching badges which they spiced with experience from their playing careers to guide their respective goalkeepers.Some of the notable goalkeeper trainers undertaking the course include Under-20 AFCON- bound goalkeeper coach Samwel Koko who also holds the same capacity at KCB and former internationals Dancun Ochieng (Tusker FC), Boniface Oluoch (Gor Mahia), Willis Obungu (Sofapaka) and Mathews Ottamax.Raft of sanctions await Gor Mahia players who featured for A Mosquito FCAlso in attendance is Harambee Stars and Bandari FC goalkeeper trainer Jerim Onyango. Jerim is the only top-flight coach in the country who has undergone a specialized goalkeeper trainer course.The former Gor Mahia captain was among 17 goalkeeper trainers who attended the first ever CAF Goalkeeping Elite Instructors Course on 2nd to 9th December 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa and became an instructor himself upon completion.##NAJAVA_MECA_8445511##According to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the course is aimed at improving the level of goalkeeping coaching in the country.“This course is set to elevate the standard of goalkeeping coaching in Kenya!,” reads part of the FKF statement.
