Farouk Shikalo reveals motivation behind KCB’s impressive start

Widely traveled KCB goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo believes a positive culture at the club has widely contributed to the team’s great run in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).The bankers remain at the top of the log despite a 1-0 loss to Mathare United which ended their six-match unbeaten run.Shikalo, 27, joined the bankers seven months ago after a short stint at Mozzart Bet-sponsored Kakamega Homeboyz.Bonface Ambani reveals Mara Sugar’s plan to construct mini-stadium“Although I have been here for a short time, it feels like three years and that is because of the positive philosophy and culture of the team,” he said in an interview. “This is what has contributed to the great run you see in the club. The club is very welcoming and everybody feels at home and part of a family and this is greatly motivating to the players.”Shikalo also pointed to teamwork as another strength for the team and believes this will count for something as far as their ambitions are concerned this season.“The teamwork has been wonderful. It is not about an individual but everyone and with this attitude we can do something,” he added.Shikalo refuses to predict where KCB will finish after ending the last season without a trophy. The bankers missed out on the Mozzart Bet Cup last season after losing to eventual winners Kenya Police in the final.##NAJAVA_MECA_8481376##“As to whether we can sustain the good run to the end, I can only say we will give it a go, one game at a time. We are not under pressure at all. Every game is different and in this league, you cannot look down on any side.”Shikalo began his career at Muhoroni Youth in 2012 before joining the now defunct KRA one year later.He also featured for Tusker in the 2014/15 season before returning to Muhoroni Youth the following season. In 2019, he was in the national team Harambee Stars that qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations finals held in Egypt. The same year he moved to Tanzanian giants Yanga where he stayed for just one season before signing for Mtibwa Sugar and returned home last season.
