PSG are all but eliminated from the Champions League playoff spot

In Ligue 1, Paris Saint Germain are undefeated so far. With 10 wins and two draws in the first 12 rounds of the elite French championship, the Parisians are already six points ahead of Monaco and another title is looking increasingly likely. But the Champions League semi-finalist from last season looks like a first-time participant in the UEFA‘s competition. European average teams like Club Brugge, Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic or even Brest (12th in Ligue 1) are all ahead of Luis Enrique and his men. The new format has not gone down well for PSG as they are all but eliminated from the playoffs already. Only the first eight teams are secured of going to the second phase, while teams from ninth to the 24th places will be in the qualifications for the other eight spots. The Parisians need to start accumulating points quickly. Their next opponent – Bayern in Munich!Dembele: ’I want to invest in Africa’Mathematically, they can still make it to the top eight, but they would have to rely on other results and off course, to will all four remaining matches. They need to defeat Bayern in Munich, Salzburg and Stuttgart away and Manchester City in Paris. Not so easy task at all, especially they can only themselves to blame for a slow start. They defeated Girona, but then drew 1-1 with PSG and then lost to Arsenal (2-0) and Atlético de Madrid (1-2). Sitting at the 25th place (one below the qualifications), they are facing 17th placed Bayern who has two defeats already and need a win here too. According to forecasts and statistical models, it will probably take between 13 and 16 points to finish in the top 8. The play-offs seem more reasonably accessible. It will probably take between 8 and 10 points to finish in the top 24, which seems easer, as they would need two wins (Salzburg and Stuttgart perhaps) and maybe a draw with City.PSG tie African star until 2029All this is quite familiar to coach Enrique, who blamed the unrealized chances of his team, which have resulted in games not being won.”We’ve already played four Champions League games, three of them at home. Is the result fair or not? I’ve said it before, for me it’s unfair. But it is what it is. So now we have to get good results to qualify. We don’t know yet how many points we’ll need to get there, but we’ve made it difficult for ourselves. Football only knows one thing, and that’s goals scored and for that, we still have room for improvement” said Enrique.UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND 5Tuesday19:45: (14.0) Slovan B.
