UEL: Hojlund give Amorim his first win in a five-goal thriller

Second game in with Ruben Amorim in charge started the same – with an early goal, followed by a poor display. Against Ipswich, Rashford scored after 90 seconds, tonight against Bodo/Glimt, Garnacho scored even quicker, but then United allowed two stunning goals in the space of four minutes and was trailing 2-1 at Old Trafford. Luckily for the home crowd, it was Rasmus Hojlund who saved United from another embarrassment as the Dane scored a brace and singlehandedly shut down dangerous Norwegians: Manchester United – Bodo/Glimt 3-2. For all those who are football lovers in general, this was a fantastic match, full of tempo, excitement, five goals and plenty of chances, not to mention the fact that the Red Devils overturned the result two times during 90 minutes.🚨🚨| GOAL: EVJEN WITH THE EQUALISER!!!Manchester United 1-1 Bodo/Glimt pic.twitter.com/PwkCWSYLfk— Bankole (@bankysux01) November 28, 2024 The first interesting thing happened before the match, when the squads were announced. Amorim made a huge surprise when he gave a chance in the first 11 to Tyrell Malacia (hasn‘t played for United for 550 days), Antony (last start 72 days ago) and Mason Mount (last start 96 days ago). Apart from them, Ugarte also started the game, as well as Lisandro Martinez and Rasmus Hojlund. It all looked good when the hosts scored in the first minute of the game, as Bodo keeper made a terrible mistake, allowing Garnacho to score easily. But soon, Malacia‘s lack of game fitness began to show up. He was often beaten by Zinckernagel and eventually was subbed for Dalot after the break. But the first shock was a stunning volley from Evjen in the 19th minute, which Onana couldn‘t defend. And four minutes later, when Malacia was beaten again, Zinckernagel fired in a low effort and the ball went through the legs of Onana for the shocking lead. United players were totally lost, they were often out of position since they are still getting used to Amorim‘s new formation, but the Norwegians failed to score the third one and Rasmus Hojlund used that one minute before the break with an equalizer. The hosts reclaimed the lead less than five minutes after the restart, as Manuel Ugarte squared the ball across the face of goal for Hojlund to prod home. From that moment on, the Red Devils got the mental strength they needed and started to attack more, taking over the tempo of the game. They had numerous opportunities to finish off the match, but Garnacho himself squandered at least two good chances while Rashford also missed one. Luckily for them, they weren’t punished by the guests, although there was a scare when the referee waved play on after goalkeeper Andre Onana handled outside his area in the second half. The Cameroonian keeper also saved the lead in injury time after a free kick. After this win, United climbed to the 12th place at the table.UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE – ROUND 5Thursday AZ Alkmaar – Galatasaray 1-1 (1-1)/Minijans 2 – Osimhen 43/Anderlecht – Porto 2-2 (0-1)/Degreef 52, Amuzu 86 – Galeno 24, Vieiria 83/Ath.Bilbao – Elfsborg 3-0 (2-0)/Boiro 6, Prados 24, Guruzeta 53/Besiktas – Maccabi T.A. 1-3 (1-2)/Silva 38 – Kanikoviski 23, Peretz 45+3, Patati 80/Dynamo Kyiv – Plzen 1-2 (0-0)/Kabaiev 90+5 – Vydra 55, Sulc 90/Lazio – Ludogorets 0-0Qarabag- Olympique Lyon 1-4 (0-1)/Perri 88(og) – Tolisso 63, Forfana 68, Mikautadze 15, 80/Rigas – PAOK 0-2 (0-1)/Desdotov 2, Chalov 52/Braga – Hoffenheim 3-0 (2-0)/Bruma 2, Fernandes 5, Carvalho 90+5/FCSB – Olympiakos (0-0Ferencvaros – Malmo 4-1 (2-1)/Varga 8, 11, Borges 53, Cisse 74 – Botheim 18/Man.Utd. – Bodo 3-2 (2-2)/Garnacho 1, Hojlund 45, 50 – Evjen 19, Zirckenagel 23/Midtjylland – Eintr.Frankfurt 1-2 (0-1)/Collins 48 (og) – Larsson 7, Marmoush 57(pen)/Nice – Rangers 1-4 (0-3)/Bouanani 83 – Cerni 38, Diomande 38, Igamane 45, 54/Slavia Praha – Fenerbahce 1-2 (1-1)/Chory 7 – Dzeko 35, El-Nesyri 85/Sociedad – Ajax 2-0 (0-0)/Barrenetxea 65, Kubo 85Tottenham – Roma 2-2 (2-1)/Son 5(p), Johnson 33 – Ndicka 20, Hummels 90+1/Twente – St.Gilloise 0-1(0-1)/Fuseini 11/
