Everything was set up in Heidenheim for the spectactle. A small town in Germany, with a population little over Chelsea‘s Stamford Bridge was the host to the biggest game in club‘s history – England‘s Chelsea. A team which made a total surprise two seasons ago when they were promoted to Bundesliga and then last season qualified for the European competition were undefeated until tonight as they won all of their three games (Olimpija, Pafos, Hearts). But, after 90 minutes, the Blues are the ones who are coming back to England with all three points and a pefect record: Heidenheim – Chelsea 0-2.While the triumph came through goals from Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk, it was actually Filip Jorgensen who had as much credit as his colleagues from attack. The Dane made some crucial saves before Nkunku scored his seventh goal in Europe and also prevented Heidenheim‘s equalizer twice before Mudryk four minutes before time. The hosts weren‘t scared of a much stronger opponent and put up a figth, but failed to take their chances, and Chelsea new how to punish that. After an electric pre-game atmosphere at the stands, the first half was not so exciting. Chelsea was dominant (as expected) even thou coach Enzo Marcesa changed 10 players from the Leicester game (only Benoit Badiashile survived). The Spanish striker Guiu was the most active Chelsea player in the opening period, but his first (out of three) serious shots came in the 18th minute, when keeper Muller saved the goal with his toes. The hosts had the best chance of the half in the 26th minute, when Wanner unleashed a thunderbolt towards the Chelsea goal but Jorgensen managed to beat it away. On the other side Nkunku found himself in front of Muller minutes later, but tried to lob him and ruined a really good opportunity.‘Let’s get Brexit done…’Fair play to FC Heidenheim for one of the best banners yet. @FCH1846 #HeiChe #FCHCHE pic.twitter.com/0H0QBH9LqI— Gavin Quinney (@GavinQuinney) November 28, 2024 However, the Frenchman, who is more and more unhappy with his limited role in this Chelsea team was on target in the 51st minute, when he used Sancho‘s assist from the right to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead. Jorgensen made a big save after Scienza took a precise shot to the bottom right corner. The Dane saved his team again in the 69th minute. After an unsuccessful offside trap by the Blues, Wanner found himself aloe with Jorgensen, but unexplainable shot directly at the Danish keeper. After that it was Mudryk who punished all those misses. Ironically, he played probably the worst European game so far, but ended up as the scorer.
