Roma finish the city derby in only eight minutes

10 games in all competition and five wins. That‘s the current score for Claudio Ranieri, who came out of retirement in November 2024 in order to help one of the teams he once managed (and almost won the title with them). Out of those five wins, tonight’s is the most important to Roma fans, as they defeated the arch enemy in Derby Della Capitale: Roma – Lazio 2-0. Giallorossi needed only eight minutes to score two goals and not only that, they kept their advantage and defended well, finishing with a clean sheet, their only second one since Ranieri‘s arrival. Prior to former Leicester‘s coach arrival, the situation was so bad that even with this win, Giallorossi moved only two positions and are in 10th position in Serie A, but fans needed this win over their rivals and now they will ‘rule‘ the city of Rome for some time.Lazio: “Since 1900 masters of our destiny, captains of our soul!”Roma: “Anti Lazio, today like yesterday”#RomaLazio pic.twitter.com/hpJkLjGAQx— Alasdair Mackenzie (@aksmackenzie) January 5, 2025 Prior to this match, Lazio were in much better form as they sit in fourth place with six wins more then their rivals, and were seven places above them before the start of the match. But as soon as the game began, Roma took the initiative, scored two quick goals and then just tactically ‘killed‘ their rival for the next 70 minutes. There were no chances before the first goal, only because the first goal came so quickly, in the 10th minute of the game. It was Roma‘s captain and boyhood fan Lorenzo Pellegrini, who has even been booed by his own fans at times this season who scored a beauty and sent his fans into delirium. Just eight minutes after that, AC Milan‘s Saelemaekers scored the second goal. His first effort was saved by Provedel but the ball popped up nicely for him to knock in the rebound. What A Goal Pellegrini!! ROMA 1-0 LAZIOpic.twitter.com/69cfYWepeB— Siaran Bola Live (@SiaranBolaLive) January 5, 2025 At that point, nobody thought that the match will end with this score, but it did. Roma played tactically well and basically left Lazio without a proper chance in the first half. In the second period, the ‘guests‘ in this game (Lazio and Roma share the stadium) started with a fury and had two great chances, but when tactical setup failed, Roma keeper Rade Svilar was there to save shots from Castellanos and Guendouzi. Roma‘s only chance after two goals came in the 57th minute, when Pellegrini came close to scoring a brace, but his shot was saved by Provedel with his legs. Svilar again denied Castellanos in the 70th minute, but from that moment on, scuffles between players started, and in the end, it ended with two red cards in injury time, just to add more ‘spice‘ to the already heated affair.SERIE A – MATCHDAY 19Saturday Venezia – Empoli 1-1 (1-1)/Pohjanpalo 5 – Esposito 32/Fiorentina – Napoli 0-3 (0-1)/Neres 29, Lukaku (p) 54, McTominay 68/Verona – Udinese 0-0Sunday Monza – Cagliari 1-2 (1-1)/Caprari 6 pen – Zortea 22, Piccoli 56/Lecce – Genoa 0-0Torino – Parma 0-0Roma – Lazio 2-0 (2-0)/Pellegrini 10, Saelemaekers 18/***odds are subject to change***
