Why former Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala terminated his contract with Lebanese side

Harambee Stars striker Benson Omala opted to terminate his contract with Lebanese club Al Safa Sporting after going for three months without receiving a salary.Last week, it emerged that Safa had not included Omala in the list of players, who will feature for the club in the remainder of the season, raising concerns over his return and future at the Beirut-based outfit. His omission came amid strong links to a potential return to the FKF Premier League with Gor Mahia being fronted as the clear favourites for his signature, albeit on loan. However, Mozzart Sport has established that the forward will not return to Lebanon after terminating his contract due to a lack of pay in the past three months. ##NAJAVA_MECA_74437##His father Peter Oluoch, alleged that Safa had not paid Omala’s monthly salary in October, November and December forcing him to invoke FIFA regulations that grant players the right to terminate a contract if the employer is late in paying for two months. “He requested for contract termination in January after going for three months without pay. Luckily, he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to terminate if the club failed to pay for three months. We are expecting the club to avail his release letter on Tuesday,” he revealed. Former Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala axed from Al Safa squadDespite the strong links to local clubs, Oluoch insists that there is no single club that has tabled an offer for his son, who continues to keep fit in Kisumu. “Contrary to what has been circulating on social media and news outlets, he is yet to receive offers from domestic and foreign clubs,” he added. Omala joined Safa in August last year from Gor Mahia, whom he had helped clinch back-to-back league titles. However, he did not last long at Safa as he returned home in the same month for Harambee Stars’ duties, and ever since he has never flown back to Lebanon. Gor Mahia respond to claims of being favoured by refereesIt was reported that the former Western Stima forward failed to hit the runaway in protest of Safa’s delay in paying his sign-on fees. The security situation in Lebanon, which has significantly affected lives and sporting activities was, however, his major reason for failing to return to Beirut.
