Lacazette is a top 20 Lyon’s all-time scorer

At 33, Alexandre Lacazette continues to play and do what he does best – scoring goals. Former Arsenal captain came back to his boyhood club after his contract with Gunners ran out in 2022. And against Montpellier on Sunday, he scored his 153rd goal in Ligue 1 for Lyon and went straight into the club’s Top 20 scorers list, and he can progress even further until May. Lacazette was a sub in this game and came in the 70th minute. He scored after only three minutes, and is now tied with Jacky Vergnes (a striker from the 1970’s) at the number 20.🇫🇷📈 Alexandre Lacazette (33) is now in the top 20 goalscorers in Ligue 1 history! 🔝He has 153 goals in the competition. 💎 pic.twitter.com/UnHitWOx3l— EuroFoot (@eurofootcom) February 17, 2025 Since coming back from Arsenal, the former French international scored 63 goals (along with 13 assists) in 102 games in all competition, and the season is still not over yet. Apart from helping his team winning a spot which allows them to play European football next season, Lacazette could still move up a few places on the Top 20 chart. He is only three goals behind Jean-Pierre Papin (19th with 156 goals). The OL captain is also very close to Désiré Koranyi (18th with 157 goals) and the ex-Lyonnais André Guy (17th with 159 goals). He left his hometown once and never again: Lacazette rejected 30,000,000 from the SaudiCurrent Lyon captain moved to Arsenal in 2017 for 53 million euros and wanted to emulate his boyhood hero Thierry Henry. He became captain allright, but the overall quality of the Gunners’ team was not so good, so he ended up with only one FA Cup to show for in his five years as the Arsenal player. During those five seasons, he played in 206 games and scored 71 goals along with 32 assists. When Mikel Arteta took over the team, that was the beginning of the end. The Spaniard and sporting director Edu wanted younger and quicker players with lower wages and Lacca was the casualty in 2022. He entered the 2021/22 season with no contract offers from the Gunners and it remained so until the very end, which was a clear sign that Arteta doesn’t see him in his plans, even thou he publicly stated a few times that he will attempt to persuade the striker to sign a new deal. In 2024, Lacazette got a tempting offer from Saudi Arabia and looked destined to go (Al Qadsiah, 30 million euros for two seasons), but he decided to stay in his boyhood club. And he can now continue to rise on the strikers’ list.UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – PLAYOFFSReturn legTuesday 20.45: (1.45) Milan (4.50) Feyenoord (7.00)23.00: (1.55) Atalanta (4.10) Club Brugge (6.00)23.00: (1.20) Bayern (7.25) Celtic (12.0)23.00: (1.95) Benfica (3.50) Monaco (3.90)Wednesday 20.45: (1.95) Dortmund (3.50) Sporting (3.90)23.00: (1.18) PSG (7.25) Brest (15.0)23.00: (2.30) PSV (3.45) Juventus (3.05)23.00: (1.85) Real Madrid (3.80) Man.City (4.00)***odds are subject to change***
