Let‘s try to use Manchester United‘s famous song and paraphrase it in order to summarize tonight‘s game with Ipswich: Lucky, Lucky Man United. After a comeback from Everton last week (from 2-0 to 2-2), the Red Devils played against relegation strugglers Ipswich at home and yet had the luck to win the game 3-2. Instead of winning with ease against a team which lost five out of their last six matches, the Red Devils shot themselves in the foot twice, were losing after only three minutes, played with 10 men for 50 minutes and still won the game. The reason? Ipswich are really poor team which can‘t defend set-pieces. The Tractor boys allowed three goals from three set-pieces and failed to equalize against 10-men United. Patrick Dorgu was United‘s only January signing and he had few solid displays before totally collapsing in this game, as he allowed a terrible goal and then made a horrid tackle and got the red card. Luckily for him, Ipswich don‘t have the quality to compete in the Premier League and it showed tonight.IPSWICH GOAL !!!!!!!!!! 1-0 😂 pic.twitter.com/qtbY3lmSGU— Janty (@CFC_Janty) February 26, 2025 🚨🏴 GOAL | Manchester United 2-2 Ipswich Town | Jaden PhilogeneJADEN PHILOGENE EQUALIZES FOR IPSWICH TOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pic.twitter.com/EC7L8SuHyj— Tekkers Foot (@tekkersfoot) February 26, 2025 The Red Devils started the game by allowing a goal after just four minutes due to a terrible error from both Dorgu and Onana. United‘s January signing wanted to give the ball to his keeper but never looked where he is, while the Cameroonian goalie failed to communicate with his teammate and the result was a amateur-like goal. United continued to concede first which is worrying as the Red Devils allowed the opening goal of the game 12 times since Amorim came, more than any other team. And then the Ipswich‘s suicide began. They allowed two goals from two set pieces. The first one was an own goal after a free kick from Bruno Fernandes, while the second one, which came after just four minutes happened after a corner kick, after which Ipswich players failed to clear the ball twice, eventually allowing De Ligt to smash the ball from close range. And then, just as the fans were celebrating, Dorgu stroke again. The young defender made a horrible tackle on Hutchinson‘s shin. The player remained unharmed by shire luck, but VAR suggested to the referee that a red card is needed. He went out in the 40th minute, and Ipswich equalized in the 44th. Jaden cut in from the left and whipped a stunning ball into Delap, who stayed onside. His presence caused Onana an issue. The ball skipped off the surface and into the far corner!Egyptian Sam Morsy saves Manchester United with own goal 🔥 pic.twitter.com/HVzN5UfQKh— 𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐒 (@CR_74_) February 26, 2025 DE LIGTTTT DOUBLES THE SCORE 2-1 FOR MANCHESTER UNITED. pic.twitter.com/MEiN763AzG— Zahid Ayubi (@ZahidAyubi7) February 26, 2025 But as much as Dorgu crippled his own team with two terrible mistakes, Ipswich continued with it‘s own suicide and allowed United to score with ten men. Just as the second half started, Harry Maguire scorer the eventual winner. It was again a set-piece and it was again Fernandes with the cross. This time it was Maguire’s turn to score a goal and it proved to be a fatal one. Ipswich tried to get an equalizer until the very end, but there is a reason why are they relegation candidates and this game again showed it. This was a huge win for Manchester United.
