Sofapaka youngster eyeing Harambee Stars CHAN squad

On-form Sofapaka youngster Edward ‘Ondimo’ Omondi has disclosed that he has set his eyes on the Harambee Stars African Nations Championship (CHAN) squad at the end of the season.Omondi who joined Batoto Ba Mungu at the start of the season for his FKF Premier League debut has been in fine form for the 2009 league champions and has established himself as one of the key players in the team.##NAJAVA_MECA_8744365##The former Rainbow FC winger has shown resilience after starting the season as a substitute player but slowly but surely proved his importance forcing the technical bench to use him more as a starter. The 20-year-old was on target for Sofapaka in their 1-1 draw against Mara Sugar that was played on Saturday 2 February at Dandora Stadium in what was his sixth league goal of the season where he laid bare his ambitions after the match.“I am on a good run of form and I just keep pushing myself to see if I can get the chance to feature in CHAN. I have to work extra hard in training and matches for the team. There is no stopping and hopefully that works out at the end of the season,” said Omondi.Benni McCarthy formally appointed as new Harambee Stars coachDespite giving Sofapaka a half time lead in the Mara Sugar clash, Sofapaka’s defense was once again breached and allowed Joseph Okwenda to equalize in the 52nd minute, much to the frustration of Omondi.“I am glad to get my sixth league goal. It was not only good for me but also for the team. I just hope that we could do better defensively. I feel that was a kind of match that ought to have ended 1-0,” he noted.##NAJAVA_MECA_8744404##Sofapaka have now registered just a single win in their last seven league games and Omondi said that they will have to find a way of improving their defensive approach if they are to find back their winning touch.“We need to work together as a team to ensure that we turn around results. It would require everyone’s efforts. We have been starting matches well but then concede in the second half,” he concluded.
