“Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid, but for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for and accountable for will take time” said Manchester United‘s Sir Jim Ratcliffe in a recent interview with Gary Neville. This quote, in which he was referring to some of the players in the United‘s squad was just one of many interesting thoughts he had about the club in which he invested his own money recently. The Brittish millionaire also revealed that the club was nearly out of money, that the situation is difficult, but that it will get better over time. Speaking about the players, he named Bruno Fernandes as one of the great footballers and captains in the club.Ratcliffe opens up about Manchester debts, overpaid players and managersBut speaking after the 4-1 win over Real Socidedad in the Europa League on Thursday, the Portuguese midfielder was not so happy with owner‘s comments about his colleagues.“It’s not nice to hear certain things obviously. I don’t think any player likes to hear criticism or things that are talked about; that you’re not good enough or you’re overpaid or whatever. Everyone has their own contract. The club agrees to the contracts at the time you come here, or at the time you do a new contract, and it’s about proving that you can be important for the club. We can’t relax at this club. There’s a big standard, a big attention that you get from the media. You need to realise that sometimes you must put your focus on your game, trying to improve yourself” he said. This young man knows what sportsmanship is!Off course, everybody in the world who ever looked at least one Manchester game this season knows that Ratcliffe is right, but Bruno is the captain of this team and certainly has to defende his teammates, at least in public. In August 2027, Fernandes signed a new deal until 2027 with the option of a further year. The United‘s captain admitted he was considering leaving as he has other offers.“I sat with the club because I had an offer to leave, we talked about the possibility of me leaving the club or staying. They said what they wanted from me. I asked if they still see me as part of the future of the club or not. I spoke at the time with Erik ten Hag also. He was very clear with me, the club were very clear with me; that they thought I would be a big part of this rebuild that they want to do in a different way. I heard what they had to tell me. I thought that we could be successful. Unfortunately, we didn’t start the season very well. Erik had to lose his job by the results we had and the performance we had, but the fault was on everyone and everyone together with the manager. Now we are in a different moment with a new manager that thinks in a different way, has a different way of playing. I’m still very happy at the club” said Fernandes. He will certainly be happier if he sees the squad overhaul in May 2025.PREMIER LEAGUE MATCHDAY 29 Saturday18:00: (2.15) Everton (3.35) West Ham (3.80)18:00: (3.90) Ipswich (3.50) Nott.Forest (2.05)18:00: (1.70) Man.City (4.35) Brighton (4.70)18:00: (3.60) Southampton (3.45) Wolverhampton (2.05)20:30: (1.80) Bournemouth (4.10) Brentford (4.40)Sunday16:30: (1.85) Arsenal (3.70) Chelsea (4.60)16:30: (2.10) Fulham (3.60) Tottenham (3.60)22:00: (4.50) Leicester (3.50) Man.Utd.
