With the title race all but over, Arsenal has only two remaining goals until the end of season in May: to remain second in the Premier League and to play as best football as possible against mighty Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter final. But both goals just became tougher to achieve after today‘s game with Everton. The Toffies are thriving under old/new coach David Moyes and they managed to earn a 1-1 draw against Mikel Arteta‘s men. Just at the beginning of the second half, a contact between Harrison and Lewis-Skelly was branded a penalty against the guests, even thou the slow motion confirmed that it was really minimal contact, or contact from both players to say at least. But on the other side, it must be said that the Gunners can blame only themselves for this draw. Even with this soft penalty, they should have won with one or two goals difference, especially with chances they had in the first half. But they failed to convert them and then showed mental weakness, allowing an average Everton team not only to equalize, but to take control in the second half, limiting the Gunners to only two decent chances, both in the last 10 minutes of the game. The guests managed to score a goal, but they did have a few good opportunities apart from that. Just after two minute, Everton‘s Pickford missed his kick and allowed Trossard to gather possession. The ball came to White on the overlap and he assisted Sterling, but Iroegbunam made a brilliant block to deny the winger. Rice‘s header in the 12th minute was destined to go into the net, but Branthwaite flicked the ball away from goal right under his crossbar. But after half and hour a miscommunication between Gueye and Branthwaite allowed Trossard to get the ball and the Belgian made a precise shot from the edge of the area – 1:0 Arsenal. Still, even when VAR looked at it it was a soft penalty at best, but the decision stood and the Senegalese Iliman Ndiaye was precise and became Everton‘s best striker of the season. The momentum shift towards the Toffies and Doucoure tried this shot in the 52nd minute, but Raya saved it. Arsenal was quite pale in the second half and their first proper chance came only in the 82nd minute of the game, when Odegaard‘s shot from seven meters went wide right.
