Patty Tavatanakit, the young Thai player who went wire-to-wire at the ANA Inspiration earlier this spring, is known for her massive power.
But don’t overlook her touch and creativity around the greens. Case in point: the par-4 fifth hole at Olympic Club’s Lake Course on Friday at the U.S. Women’s Open. After Tavatanakit’s smoked 297-yard drive bound through the fairway and into the rough, her approach from 112 yards came up short near a greenside bunker. It looked like Tavatanakit might have to take her stance in the bunker to hit her third shot.
She instead opted to turn her wedge upside down and hit left-handed, nestling it to 2 feet. She walked off the green with par.

Tavatanakit carded a 1-under 70 in the second round and is 3 over for the tournament, nine shots back of leader Yuka Saso.
