Two years ago, they stumbled at the final step, and now again. For the second time, Inter has failed to capture the Champions League trophy. In fact, this year they suffered a historic debacle, learning the hard way that they can’t expect much with an aging squad. Paris Saint-Germain’s young guns steamrolled them, putting an end to an era for the Milan club. Simone Inzaghi officially left Inter, and some players will soon follow him. Although the Champions League runner-up hasn’t yet found a replacement, the club has already begun its reconstruction. With the oldest squad of the just-concluded Champions League season, Inter clearly needs rejuvenation—and they’re apparently starting with the attack. Gazzetta dello Sport confirmed it this morning: Inter has launched a mission to bring in Rasmus Hojlund.🚨 Rasmus Hojlund is OPEN to join Inter Milan. #MUFC [@Gazzetta_it via @ZAYN_Z7] pic.twitter.com/3NCn14iRLl— UtdTruthful (@Utdtruthful) June 5, 2025 According to Italian media, Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio was in London yesterday to negotiate with Cesc Fàbregas—Inzaghi’s top replacement candidate—but that wasn’t the only reason for his visit to the English capital. The Milan-based paper claims that Ausilio also held talks with Hojlund’s agents and Manchester United executives. Ausilio reportedly left the meeting feeling optimistic, having received the green light from the Danish striker to return to Italy. While Hojlund didn’t shine during his two-year stay at Old Trafford, he certainly hasn’t lacked interest. Since March, both Juventus and Napoli have inquired about him. In fact, the United forward was said to be closer to joining the Old Lady until the club decided to part ways with technical director Cristiano Giuntoli, who was working on his transfer. Since then, contacts have cooled, and Hojlund now appears closer to Inter.Wolf becomes the Devil – Cunha’s in the buildingStill, nothing has been finalized. Apart from Hojlund’s willingness to return to Serie A—where he previously played for Atalanta—Inter currently has nothing concrete. They’ll likely be able to reach a personal agreement with the striker, but finding common ground with Manchester United will be more difficult. The English giants invested nearly 80 million in his arrival and are determined to recover as much of that money as possible. However, after a season where he scored 10 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions, it’s clear that expectations for a high return are unrealistic. Inter’s plan is to bring Hojlund in—predictably—on loan, with a 45 million buy option at the end of the season, which would become mandatory under certain conditions.##NAJAVA_MECA_8963292##So, the deal is far from done—but Inter isn’t in a rush. They’ll have enough firepower for the Club World Cup. Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram are untouchable, and Mehdi Taremi will also travel to the United States, though his future at San Siro remains uncertain. If Rasmus Højlund does arrive, whether 19-year-old Sebastiano Esposito—who scored 19 goals in Serie B this season for Spezia—stays or goes will depend on the new coach’s decision. If Esposito remains, Taremi will likely have to find a new club. Meanwhile, Marko Arnautović and Joaquín Correa are set to depart, with their contracts expiring at the end of the month. According to Sky Italia, Correa has already agreed to join Botafogo.
