Before the Round of 16 game between Inter Milan and Fluminense, Inter coach Cristian Chivu had one worry on his mind – the weather. A summer storm was forecasted in North Carolina during the Inter vs. Fluminense match, and a scenario similar to the Chelsea vs. Benfica game was on everybodys mind. So, Chivu called on the organizers to postpone the match in advance if the weather forecasts indicate a storm, rather than repeat the farce from two days ago in Charlotte. Thing was, he was worried too much about the weather which in the end turned to be OK, but he failed to concentrate more on the match preparation.🚨🌎 GOAL | Inter 0-1 Fluminense | German CanoGERMAN CANO OPENS THE SCORING FOR FLUMINENSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pic.twitter.com/1QTYXM9GU7— Tekkers Foot (@tekkersfoot) June 30, 2025 Inter Milan conceded an early goal and failed to put the ball past 44-years old Brazilian keeper and they are going home: Inter – Fluminense 0-2. Inter finished the season on a low note after losing the Serie A championship and being defeated heavily by PSG in the Champions League finals and this World Cup was a good opportunity to put things right, to get Chivu going as the new boss, and whats most important – to get more money. The club is in the process of revamping the squad with some younger players and if they qualified for the next round, the prize money would rise up to 45 million euros. In other words, half of the expenses for Sučić, Bony, Leoni, Luis Henrique, and Zalewski would be covered just through participation in the tournament. But now they will have to get the money another way as they are out of the Club World Cup. They were not dominant (on the contrary) and they failed to take their chances. Fluminense wanted it more, they were excellent defensively and should have scored more in attack, but in the end, two goals (the second one deep in overtime) was enough, and they are now waiting the outcome of the Manchester City – Al-Hilal game.🚨🌎 GOAL | Inter 0-2 Fluminense | HerculesHERCULES DOUBLES THE LEAD FOR FLUMINENSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY HAVE KNOCKED OUT INTER OF THE CLUB WORLD CUP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pic.twitter.com/oVRSEnqWxX— Tekkers Foot (@tekkersfoot) June 30, 2025 Inter coach Cristian Chivu wasn’t happy that his team was 1-0 down after the first 45 minutes, but he should have been. The score should have been 3-0, as Fluminense dominated the first half and had two more chances to finish the match way before the last whistle. The Brazilians took an early lead when Darmian and Bastoni didn’t communicate well and allowed Cano to score from a header. Inter had only one chance five minutes later, when goalkeeper Fabio stopped Dimarco’s shot. Then it was time for Fluminense again. In the 29th minute, Darmian lost the ball and Jhon Arias took a shot but Sommer was there with the save, only to see Samuel Xavier coming in, but the Brazilian was not precise. The Brazilian team actually scored a goal in the 39th minute, but after a short celebration, the referee disallowed it due to offside.Inter are UCL runners-up, but can they do it in scorching US sun against 40-year-old Monster? Both teams tried in the second half but nothing happened until 62nd minute when Sommer was brilliant again. Jhon Arias made a clever curled ball which looked like it was going wide of the post but was actually on target. Still, Sommer was cautions and pushed the ball into the corner. Five minutes later, Inter had even a better chance. Martinez layed the ball to De Vrij’s feet but he somehow managed to miss the whole goal from just meters away. Then it was time for Inter’s captain to waste his chances. To be fair, Lautaro did everything right in the 83rd minute, bit the 44 year old Fabio made a great save, while the other shot just hit the bar. The punishment came deep in injury time when Hercules scored the second goal.FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP 2025MondayInter – Fluminense 0-2 (0-1)/Cano 3, Hercules 90+3/Tuesday04.00: (1.35) Manchester City (5.00) Al-Hilal (9.00)22.00: (1.67) Real Madrid (3.70) Juventus (5.50)Wednesday04.00: (1.80) Dortmund (3.60) Monterrey (4.60)***odds are subject to change***
