Wethuli sets target after maiden Mathare goal

Mathare United forward Eugene Wethuli will be targeting to stretch his Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKKPL) goal tally to five before the season ends.Wethuli got off the mark on Wednesday when his solitary strike against AFC Leopards inspired the 2008 league champions to their second win of the season. The burly forward who was captured from National Super League (NSL) side Nairobi Stima had seen limited playing before the arrival of coach Frank Ouna who has since made him his preferred centre forward.FT: Mathare United 1-0 AFC Leopards 45+’ E.Wethuli #MathareVsLeopards #GreatnessWithin pic.twitter.com/LoMa3mByYh— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) June 23, 2021 Wethuli says he will be seeking to add at least four goals from the remaining rounds, a target he reckons will help the club unhook from the jaws of relegation.“I had been waiting for my first Mathare goal and I am happy it came against a big club. The goal inspired the club to win after months of unwanted results. I will be seeking to register four more goals from the remaining matches if I am to achieve my target for the season. If I continue scoring and the rest of the strikers step up then we will get out of the danger zone,” he said.Wethuli who returned to active football at the start of the season after two and half years out thanked Ouna for helping him regain his confidence and lost goal-scoring instincts.Done DealWethuli Eugene has joined @MathareUtd from NSL side Nairobi Stima #FKFPLTransfers📸 / @TrueWainaina pic.twitter.com/ItUourM6Dl— Rodgers Odhiambo (@rodgers_otienoo) November 3, 2020 The goal poacher suffered a career-threatening injury after tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) while at Stima which saw him go under the knife and subsequent lengthy rehabilitation.“It feels good to be back to active football after two and half years out. Coach Ouna has played a massive role in helping me find my form. I will continue working hard to repay him the confidence and for the benefit of the club,” he added.Mathare are scheduled to take on Posta Rangers on Saturday in their next match.
