The resurgence is on for Western Stima after win over Gor Mahia

Western Stima head coach Abdalla Juma has vowed to use the stunning victory against defending champions Gor Mahia as a motivating factor to plot his team’s escape from the relegation zone.Despite Geoffrey Ochieng’s attempts in pulling one goal back late in the match for the record Kenyan champions, two goals from Rodgers Ouma and Michael Karamor were enough to see the Kisumu based side walk away with all three points that guaranteed only their third win of the season in 21 games played.Gor Mahia’s hopes of playing next seasons CAF Champions League vanished after losing 2-1 to Western Stima at Thika Stadium.#Gallery pic.twitter.com/7tzrsrimNz— Kenn Okaka Kenya (@kennokaka1000) June 27, 2021 Following the result, Stima jumped upto 15th place on the league standings, one point clear of the relegation places after a back and forth stay in the drop zones and the former Chemelil Sugar tactician has revealed his ambition to build on the rare fulfilling win that was a first since February 2017.“I had told my players that if they managed a win against Gor, they will not need any other motivation to perform. We are now training without any pressure and we will be approaching the upcoming games with a different mentality” he told Mozzart Sport.

With games coming thick and fast in between this squeezed calendar, Juma is quickly plotting to take on a bogey Sofapaka side on Wednesday afternoon, hoping that the tide from the Gor win can help them sweep the largely inconsistent side in the first of the team’s eleven remaining games before the season wraps up.“We have now won our first match in the second leg and we have seen it is possible to untangle yourself from the pressures of relegation if you can maintain good form in a certain number of games. It is just upon us to go with the same attitude in the next games ahead of us. The mood in the camp has been lively going by how we have trained in the last two days,” the coach added.
