D-Day for KCB with Champions League football at stake

CAF Champions League (CAFCL) chasing KCB have one job on Wednesday afternoon, they have to beat Nzoia Sugar and hope that Tusker fails to win against Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru, and with that, the Zedekiah Otieno led team will qualify for the continental showpiece for the first time in history.KCB are second in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) table with 43 points, one behind leaders Tusker FC. The race for a top-finish in the league has been reduced to the two teams ahead of Wednesday’s deadline when the team that will fly the country’s flag in the Champions League will be known. Many agree that the Bankers have punched way above their weight this campaign. Few if any anticipated that they would firmly be in the title race at this stage of the season. On Wednesday however, they face a side fighting for their survival. Nzoia are on a bad run in the league and they will be keen on getting something out of the game lest they get sucked up in the relegation battle. They have not won a match in their last seven outings.Second half action from Narok Stadium 📷📷📷Nzoia Sugar FC 0 Nairobi City Stars 1 #NzoiaVsCityStars#BKPL pic.twitter.com/1O9VSwBtrY— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) June 25, 2021 When the two teams met in the first leg, Nzoia picked a 2-1 win at the Sudi Stadium, it is a defeat that coincided with KCB’s rare rough patch in the league. They however recovered and are firmly back in the title race.KCB forward Derrick Otanga, who has scored seven league goals understands the importance of winning on Wednesday.”All we are thinking of is CAF Champions League and we definitely want to get a positive result. We expect Nzoia to fight for the points as well and as such we have to produce our best game to win. We will not focus much on what will be happening in Nakuru our duty is to win our game,” he told Mozzart Sport.StruggleDerrick Otanga earns a rare start for SoNy Sugar during his first season in the top flight, 2018.#footke pic.twitter.com/XSfXklhfR5— Footballers Of Our Time (@TransferMarktEA) June 29, 2021  The crunch match will be preceded by the clash between Nairobi City Stars and Wazito FC.
