Kakamega Homeboyz played gallantly at Thika stadium, picking one point following a one-all draw with hosts Bidco United in what is turning out to be one of the hardest grounds to attain positive results this season.The draw left Homeboyz tactician Nicholas Muyoti praising his players for resilience in containing immense pressure from the hosts. Muyoti who has regretted the impact of the suspension of sporting activities in the Lake Region for their recent three-match win-less run said the players deserved pats on their backs for the draw, their fifth for the season. “I am satisfied with the draw as our opponents were the better side in the match. The suspension of sporting activities in the Lake Region has come with its effects and thus explains why we are struggling,”he said. His counterpart Anthony Akhulia was however upset with his charges particularly the forward line for their shyness in front of the goal. The youthful tactician also took a swipe with the defence line for conceding what he labeled an easy goal. “My forward line was not sharp enough today. We had better chances and could have won the match easily. The back line also let us down with the kind of goal they let in. At this level, I don’t expect them to be that generous,” he said. The hosts made their intentions of scooping maximum points clear seconds into the game after Nelson Chieta nearly caught the Homeboyz defence flat footed but could not fire past Geoffrey Oputi. However they could not build on the opportunity to breach the strong Homeboyz rear which thwarted the early scare and the subsequent ones launched within the opening ten minutes. Homeboyz tested Bidco’s custodian Edwin Mukolwe for the first in the match in the eleventh minute through Sylvester Owino who rose high to head a freekick delivered by Thomas Wainaina but the former national U20 goalkeeper was well positioned to deny the youngster.The visitors who recovered from the slow start took the lead in the 25th minute through David Odhiambo who was magnificently put through by the experienced Allan Wanga to slot the ball past the exposed Mukolwe. What was supposed to be a goal scoring opportunity for Bidco turned disastrous as Oputi gathered a corner kick from Zachary Gathu before laying the ball to Shami Kibwana who bulldozed his way past the open midfield and picked Wanga whose pass slithered past two defenders to the unmarked Odhiambo.The lead would only last for ten minutes as Peter Nzuki restored parity for the hosts after catching Oputi off his line with a long range effort.Kibwana would have restored Homeboyz lead in the 54th minute after he dribbled past his markers but the former Thika United midfielder fired wide with the goalkeeper to beat.A minute later, Homeboyz made their first change where Christopher Masinza came in for the ineffective Stephen Etyang.Bidco responded three minutes later by bringing in the duo of Eric Gichimu and Steven Okiro for David Orem and Alex Keke respectively.The Thika based club added fresh legs again in the 82nd minute when Kassim Mwinyi and Lambert Oyuga came in for Gathu and Chieta respectively.However, the new changes did little to inspire the team to their first win over Homeboyz.
