FKF President Nick Mwendwa has explained how the decision to submit the team at the top of the log on June 30 as the country’s representative in CAF Champions League was arrived at.Speaking to Tikitaka’s Ali Hassan Kauleni, Mwendwa said that it was either a team was submitted by the date given by CAF, or Kenya would have missed out from participating in Africa’s premier club football tournament altogether, saying that efforts to have CAF extend the deadline by a month were futile.”CAF said that come what may, we must give them our entrant by June 30. On the same line of thought, they said that we should submit the team at the top on June 30 to represent the country. A month and a half before, the committee sat and approved that it is possible that whoever goes to the Champions League may not be necessarily the league winner, and the same was communicated to clubs,” Mwendwa told Tikitaka.Mwendwa added that the decision was not subject to approval by clubs as it is the sole responsibility of the Leagues and Competitions Committee to make such decisions.”This was not something to ask clubs. There is a committee that is tasked with such things, Leagues and Competitions Committee.
