Kapaito set sights on Ambani’s goal record

With the current goal scoring record standing at 26 goals in the Kenyan Premier League area, Kariobangi Sharks talisman Eric Kapaito has set his sights on equalling the feat.A day after quashing his own record set back in the 2018 season when he plundered 16 goals, Kapaito is not resting on his laurels as he aims to extend his hot scoring streak. The former Talanta FC forward bagged a brace in the 2-2 draw against Western Stima as Sharks blew a two-goal cushion to settle for a point against the relegation-threatened side.Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Kapaito revealed that he is looking to break the long-standing Fred Ambani record that was set back in 2006 while turning out for Tusker FC. 👏🏿 | After scoring a brace yesterday, Erick Kapaito moved to 1️⃣8️⃣ League goals. He has now surpassed his 2018 golden boot winning tally of 1️⃣6️⃣ goals. How many goals do you think he will score this season ?#BetwaySharks #WeAreSharks pic.twitter.com/ufZUSztQiH— Kariobangi Sharks FC (@k_sharksfc) July 6, 2021 “I was on a slight drought so I’m happy that the goals are returning, it shows that the extra effort that I’m putting is paying off even though we did not get maximum points in the game against Stima,”“I’m taking it game by game but if I continue with the form that I’m in currently I’m sure I will get to 26 goals but I first want to achieve 20 goals then think of getting to the record,” said Kapaito. The 25-year-old now sits at the summit of the top scorer’s chart and holds a four-goal buffer against his closest challenger Elvis Rupia as he seeks to become the first player to bag the Golden Boot twice in the last decade.Kapaito first wants to achieve Jesse Were’s goal tally of 22 goals set back in 2015 and rued to costly mistakes that denied them a win against Western Stima on Monday. ⏹️| Full time ✅ We share the spoils.#WeAreSharks #BetwaySharks pic.twitter.com/9fFHJLdSEk— Kariobangi Sharks FC (@k_sharksfc) July 5, 2021 “Breaking the 20 goal barrier will be good because if I continue putting in the effort that I’m putting in, I’m sure I can get to Jesse Were’s 22 goal mark, if you look at the Kenyan league getting 20 goals is such a hard task,”“Yesterday we were unlucky because we started well a few mistakes cost us but everyone in the team wants to win and the remaining games we have to push for good results,” added Kapaito. ##EDITORS_CHOICE##
