Vihiga Queens draw tough opponents in inaugural Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Former Kenya Women Premier League champions Vihiga Queens have landed Scandinavian FC and FAP FC in Group C of the CECAFA CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers set for Nairobi, Kenya from July 17th to 1st August.Vihiga earned a ticket to the CAF Champions League by virtue of being the 2019 league champions despite Thika Queens winning the just concluded Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League.Group A is set to see Ugandan side Lady Divers battle it out against PVP Bunyezi from Burundi and reigning Tanzanian champions Simba Queens.The #TotalEnergiesCAFWCL CECAFA qualifying draw to be conducted today. pic.twitter.com/VsBFujbSd7— Cecafaonline (@Cecafaonline) July 7, 2021 Group B will see the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia take on YEI Joint Stars from South Sudan and New Generation Queens from Zanzibar.Queens will be part of nine teams from the CECAFA region that are set to battle for the one slot available in the tournament.The Football Kenya Federation is keen on seeing Vihiga Queens fly the country’s flag high in the tournament with Vihiga Queens revealing that Harambee Starlets head coach Charles Okere is set to aid the team in its preparations.2/3..Today, a team from @Football_Kenya(FKF) led by Head of Projects&National Teams Michael Kamure alongside @StarletsKE Head Coach Charles Okere visited the team at the camp to offer moral support ahead of the tournament. pic.twitter.com/MkY0GUo5sx— Vihiga Queens FC (@Vihigaqueens) July 8, 2021 “Today, a team from Football Kenya Federation (FKF) led by Head of Projects and National Teams Michael Kamure alongside Harambee Starlets Head Coach Charles Okere visited the team at the camp to offer moral support ahead of the tournament,”“As part of support to the team, FKF has donated 10 balls&has also assigned a Physio-trainer and the Starlets Head Coach to aid in training the queens who will be representing the country in the championship,” read a statement from Queens.The inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League is slated will run from November all through to December 2021 in Egypt with eight teams set to participate in the tournament.CECAFA is set to provide the fixtures of the tournament in due course.
