Resurgent Mathare seek to pile pressure on Homeboyz

An enthralling encounter awaits in Nakuru when 9th placed Kakamega Homeboyz take on a hitherto struggling Mathare United that now appears to have shaken off its frailties coming into the match set for the ASK Grounds on Saturday afternoon. Two crucial wins in their last three games have seen slum boys, Mathare, bring themselves back into survival contention as they chopped a gap that was once seven off the pace to just the current two that separates them from the safety placesDespite having the momentum clearly on their side, new head coach Frank Ouna knows too well the threat that Homeboyz pose in the match as they have not won against the Kakamega -side in their last three meetings.“They are a free scoring side, among the top lethal teams in the division and will be a worthy challenge for us as we enter the final rounds of the season hoping to secure our place in the league,” he said on the club’s portals.🚌 | Nakuru here we come.#HomeboyzVsMathare #GreatnessWithin #FKFPL pic.twitter.com/Wn0KS8LVCc— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) July 10, 2021 This season, Mathare’s Achilles heel has been failing to settle in the opening stages of the game, a weakness most opponents have used to their advantage to cause damage that has left Mathare with all the work to do in the late stages of the match, often times falling short.Ouna believes that that specific area, coupled with the respite the club had as they sat out match day 24, will be key for Mathare in this final run in to the season.“I believe the key to any success in the premier league is to have a super first-half, you start to win the game with your assertiveness from the first whistle and that is what we intend to do tomorrow. If you look at the games we have lost, even the one against Homeboyz in the first-leg, we were not at the races from the start and got punished. We go into the game with fresh legs having not played for more than a week and whenever we have had a lengthy break, we have had a bit of success,” the coach remarked.Homeboyz head into the match winless in three games but buoyed by the fact that they have a superior head to head advantage in the last five matches with Mathare where they have won the last three consecutively.Match Day Kakamega Homeboyz vs Mathare United 3 pm, Nakuru ASK Showground.Match live on StarTimes.#AbanaBeingo pic.twitter.com/w9NYThvADc— Kakamega Homeboyz FC (@FcHomeboyz) July 10, 2021 For Homeboyz the mission is definitely getting a better finish to the season considering they finished second in last season’s prematurely ended campaign. On the flipside, Mathare’s sole focus will be about changing that wretched script against Homeboyz as they seek to rescue their otherwise bleak season. Just who wants it more? The match kicks off at 1515 EAT.
