Resilient Sharks subdue Posta Rangers

A brace from Patilah Omoto and Eric Kapaito’s strike were sufficient for Kariobangi Sharks to power past Posta Rangers in Football Kenya Federation Premier League match staged at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday afternoon.Kariobangi Sharks raced into an early lead, striking from the spot thanks to their ambition that yielded a 5th minute penalty. They had started the game on the front foot, and Posta Rangers Michael Apudo couldn’t handle the pressure and ended up handling the ball in the box prompting the referee to point to the spot.Kapaito stood to take the resultant penalty and did so magnificiently, and with power, past a helpless Kevin Opiyo despite going the right way.The goal was a wake up call for Posta Rangers who produced a number of attacking incidences but they could not do the thing that Stanley Okumbi has been talking about so much lately; convert. Francis Nambute had a couple of chances in the first half but failed to put some much needed brilliance to his effort at goal. Rangers had much of the possession in the first leg, but had nothing to show for it.At the end of the first half, Omoto doubled Kariobangi Sharks’ lead to see the William Muluya side go into the break with their lead intact. On resumption, and looking for two goals to at least salvage a point, Okumbi made a tripple change bringing in Benard Ondiek, Josphat Lopaga, and Eliud Lokuwam for Michael Apudo, Dennis Oalo, and Alex Luganji. Sharks almost made it three at the stroke of the hour mark through Shaphan Oyugi but Opiyo came to the rescue with a fingertip save. Reagan Odede was the first man in the books of the referee for obstructing play and lasted only four minutes after the booking, being replaced with Ibrahim Kitawi.
