Tragicomedy for Otanga in Tusker draw

KCB striker Derrick Otanga is happy that he got a brace against Tusker FC but at the same time very frustrated that his team surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with the Brewers in a match that could define the title race this season. The Bankers went 2-0 up inside the first 24 minutes in Thika courtesy of an Otanga double, they looked firmly in the charge of the clash and in line to pick all the points. The brace took his tally for the season to nine goals. The league leaders however fought in the second half to salvage a point courtesy of goals from substitutes Humphrey and Jackson Macharia. The draw ensured that the gap between the two sides remained at four points. The result left Otanga with mixed feelings. He is happy to have found the back of the net twice but is disappointed that they surrendered a two-goal advantage to pick a single point from the match.”On a personal level obviously I am happy because I scored two goals today. For a striker scoring is important and when I got two early goals I felt could have scored more but it was not to be but a brace is good,” he told Mozzart Sport.FT: KCB FC 2-2 Tusker FC17′ Derrick Otanga 1-024′ Derrick Otanga 2-071′ Humphrey Mieno 2-182′ Jackson Macharia 2-2Otanga strikes twice, but the #Bankers throw away a 2-0 lead as top-of-the-table showdown ends in a stalemate at Thika Stadium.#FKFPL#BKPL pic.twitter.com/hVpRedwHEj— vumaSPORT (@vumaSPORT) July 11, 2021 “As a team, it’s disappointing because we did not win. A win would have reduced the gap between us and Tusker to just one point and that would have been a good advantage in the title race. We had the advantage, we were in control of the game and maybe we should have scored more when we had the momentum but most importantly we should have defended our advantage. Unfortunately, a few lapses allowed Tusker to get back into the game and got a point in the game, “he added.Despite the setback, Otanga insists they are still firmly in the race for this season’s title.”The title race is still on, we have nine matches to go and anything can happen between now and the final day. The most important thing is for us to keep winning and see what happens at the end of the season,” he concluded.Next for the Bankers is a match against Wazito FC.
