Upbeat Thiong’o seeks perfect run-in to league conclusion

AFC Leopards winger, Peter Thiong’o, is hoping to ride on the wave of scoring a second league goal at the club in order to shake off the fortunes that have seen him struggle to hit the ground running at the den.Since joining Ingwe in November last year from Kakamega Homeboyz, the winger has found it hard to command a berth in the starting eleven, oftentimes limited to only appearances off the bench. In Leopards’ last fixture, however, the youngster managed to put the game out of Bandari’s reach when he found his second strike of the season in the 2-0 win over the coastal side, ending a four-month goal drought since February when he came off the bench to notch the winner against Ulinzi Stars in a league match played at Kasarani Stadium.CLUB UPDATE 📝| AFC Leopards is delighted to confirm the signing of winger Peter Thiong’o from Kakamega Homeboys on a 2 years contract💙 Welcome to AFC Leopards @PeterThiongoo’ 💙#OursForever #INGWE pic.twitter.com/57stojJpnH— AFC Leopards (@AFCLeopards) November 1, 2020 The player, while expressing pleasure in getting back to goal scoring ways, is now hopeful the momentum from the goal can be the impetus needed to turn around his fortunes in what has been a difficult spell in his first season at the club.“I have been really pushing in training and on the pitch to find that second goal and I am glad that it finally came at the right time. It has been an up and down, stop and start season in terms of getting the desired form. Pressure at AFC Leopards is obviously higher if you consider it with the club I came from (Kakamega Homeboyz). So, it is really something that gave me quite a challenge but I am grateful to the coach because he has been trusting and believing in me by giving me playtime,” he told Mozzart Sport.3 points + a goal⚽@AFCLeopards ❤️#Oursforever #ingwe pic.twitter.com/zxxnh2M2xo— Peter Thiong’o (@PeterThiongoo) July 9, 2021 With only nine games left before the season wraps up, and with Austine Odhiambo engaged in national duty with the Emerging Stars U23 team that is in Ethiopia for CECAFA and skilful winger Harrison Mwendwa likely to miss action through injury, Thiong’o has a perfect chance to claim a position in the final run in to the season. The club next plays log leading Tusker in their next fixture this Friday16th July.
