Sinking feeling at Mathare United after narrow loss to spirited top-flight newbies Bidco

Mathare head coach Frank Ouna has been left with bitter taste in mouth after watching his charges fall 1-0 to Bidco United at the Thika Stadium to register their sixteenth loss of the season. Ouna took a swipe at his players for conceding from a set piece contrary to his training, instructions and video analysis done before kick off. ” It is not a good form going forward. The only good thing we can take from the game is we played well and created chances. They scored from a set piece something we addressed before the game after analyzing their game. We even brought in Okello in goal as he is good in crosses which he is good at. Despite the lose, there is hope that we will survive, ” said the former Harambee Stars assistant coach. As Ouna was left with bitter taste in mouth, his counterpart Anthony Akhulia was over the moon as the win saw him arrest a two-game win less run. ” I am happy with the win as it takes us our tally past the thirty mark. It feels good to take six points from Mathare too. We would have netted more had we taken our second half chances but overally, I am pleased with the win,” he said. The stoppage time howler committed by Mathare’s first choice goalkeeper Job Ochieng in their 4-2 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz cost him the starting berth as Ouna started the experienced David Okello ahead of him.The first chance of the game came in favor of Mathare in the eighth minute when Kennedy Ochieng floated in a freekick from the edge of the box but the unmarked Anthony Otieno headed wide. Mathare had been awarded the foul in the dangerous area after Anthony Simasi tugged John Mwangi who was through on goal. Bidco responded a minute later through Peter Nzuki who tried to beat Okello from long range but the former Tusker custodian gathered the ball and would collect the ball with ease six minutes later from a counterattack launched by Alex Keke. Chris Oduor would have grabbed the lead for Mathare in the 21st minute after Mwangi had wittingly sneaked the ball to him to the box but the former shot straight into the waiting hands of Adisa Omar. David Orem was also guilty of not giving Bidco the opener in the 26th minute from David Gateri’s pass as he flew his kick inches over the bar.The search however paid off in the 42nd minute when Eric Gichimu headed home a corner kick delivered by David Kalama to give Bidco the lead. Ouna could not hide his frustration when Mwangi failed to draw Mathare level in the 57th minute from James Kinyanjui’s cut back as the left footed player opted to backheel the ball instead of firing past the exposed Omar.Akhulia made his first change in the 65th minute bringing in the duo of Stephen Waruru and Lambert Oyuga for Keke and Orem respectively while Mathare made theirs three minutes where Alphonce Ndonye paved way for Eugene Wethuli.Oyuga nearly doubled Bidco’s lead two minutes after introduction after Kalama picked him with a well weighted cross which went off the target from the former’s right leg.The visitors bench breathed a huge sigh in the 70th minute as David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng brushed the woodwork in what would have been Mathare’s equalizer. In a tactical change aimed at preventing the Mathare flanker from overlapping, Akhulia brought in the duo of Stephen Okiro and Nelson Chieta for Gateri and Gichimu ten minutes to the whistle.Okiro thought he had given Bidco the second goal in the 89th minute after heading Kalama’s corner into the net only to be denied by the flag.Bidco held on the goal to register their seventh win of the season as well as completed a double over Mathare.
