Wazito derail KCB’s title ambitions

Wazito FC dented KCB’s title ambitions after forcing a one-all draw against the Bankers in an FKF Premier League match staged at the Thika Sub-County Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Wazito coach Francis Kimanzi feels fixture congestion is taking a toll on his team.”We played well, considering that’s our second game in three days and we were playing a team that had rested for ten days and I saw many positives in our game. It’s not easy with the fixtures congestion but we are to cope,” he said.KCB’s Zedekiah Otieno was not too impressed with officiating in the game.”It was a good game, but we did not play well especially in the first half but in the second we changed tact a little and attacked more through the wings and I think we got more penetration. In the end we got a point which is not bad but i think some refereeing decisions did not go our way,” he said.Heading into the game, KCB needed to win in order to reduce the gap between them and leaders Tusker to four points, Wazito on the other hand needed to bounce back from midweek loss to Ulinzi Stars and this were all catalysts for a mouth-watering encounter. The opening stages, the game was largely an evenly balanced encounter with both teams displaying some good free-flowing football, clear-cut chances were however few.The first great opportunity went KCB’s way in the 29th minute when Michael Oduor was put through on goal, as he prepared to fire home, Johnstone Omurwa recovered quickly to deny the forward a goal against his former club.Against the run of play Wazito got the opener through their striker, Michael Owino. Right-back Rooney Onyango raced down the right flank before delivering a cross which Owino nodded home.Shook after conceding, KCB started to show more attacking intent pinning Wazito to their own half in the closing stages of the game as Wazito backline led by Omurwa kept them at baby. Wazito took a narrow lead to the break.Just like the start of the first half, the second was equally evenly contested. KCB went for some attacking alterations, Henry Onyango and Victor Omune were introduced for Derrick Otanga and Simon Abuko who were having rather a quiet match. Four minutes from time, KCB won a penalty which David Owino converted to earn KCB a point.
