Lack of goals hurting us, Vihiga coach admits

Vihiga United assistant coach Samuel Twago has admitted that his team’s blunt attack is derailing their fight to avoid relegation from the FKF Premier League.United are just two points above bottom-placed Mathare United in the log and the 4-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday further heightened their drop fears with seven matches left before the 2020/21 season comes to a close. They have scored just ten league goals in 25 rounds of league matches and their woes have been largely down to their inability to find the back of the net according to the former Chemeilil Sugar and Soy United coach. Twago and head coach Mike Mururi joined the team in May when Sammy Okoth stepped down as head coach.“It is a big concern for us and we have to fix our attack. We (the new bench) came in late into the team, we just have to work with them, try to polish the weaknesses, and see if they can start scoring. My midfield too does not play well and we equally have to address it,” he said.📹| Here’s Saturday’s 4️⃣ goal thriller against Vihiga United.#WeAreSharks #BetwaySharks pic.twitter.com/4mTMqxjP4Q— Kariobangi Sharks FC (@k_sharksfc) July 19, 2021 With seven league outings left before the season comes to a close, Twago believes his teams can still beat the drop despite the weaknesses in the squad.“I believe that we have a fighting chance. We have seven matches left before the season ends and if we can manage a few wins then we will not go down. We have weaknesses in the team which we cannot fix right because the window is closed but we will have to work with the available players, sharpen them so that they can lift us from the position we are currently in,” he added.Vihiga United’s woes have been largely down to financial challenges the team has been undergoing in recent years.
