Richard Odada becomes the first Kenyan to start a game in the Serbian Superliga after playing for Metalac

Kenyan youngster Richard Odada made an encouraging start to his FK Metalac Gornji Milanovac career as he started their first Superliga fixture of the 2021/22 season away at FK Radnik Surdulica.Playing in midfield, the former Leopards starlet had a number of notable touches for the Gornji Milanovac team. A lovely right-footed curler flew just wide of the goal in the first half and a very good half volley was tipped wide by Radnik goalkeeper Stefan Randjelovic.A new chapter in young Kenyan’s career abroadWearing the ‘unlucky’ number 13 shirt, Odada picked up a booking for a professional foul 20 minutes from time and was relieved to see the resulting free-kick bounce off the upper side of his team’s crossbar and behind. Perhaps the shirt is not so unlucky after all.The Nairobi-born lad made a good account of his ability as he put himself about and gave his team a strong physical presence in the middle of the park. With his shinpads down, Odada looked at ease as apparent confidence from the coach Zarko Lazetic benefited him after spending the past six months on the fringes at the Superliga holders Crvena zvezda, also known as Red Star Belgrade.
