Nzoia mill a sweet point on the road

Nzoia Sugar held Posta Rangers to a barren draw at Ruaraka Grounds to stretch their season tally to 22 and pull away from the relegation thick. This was Collins Omondi’s second game in charge, with Stanley Okumbi being away with the national team, and he managed a consecutive draw. Before kick off, Collins Omondi embraced Nzoia Sugar’s entire technical bench as well as the substitutes in an act of brotherhood but once the kick off whistle went, the battle began. For Nzoia, a battle that perhaps would come in handy in the quest for survival. For Posta, a battle that would see them push for a top ten finish, maybe. The first real chance fell to Posta just three minutes into the game when they were awarded a freekick that was well taken by Dinken Muema, forcing Humphrey Katasi to stretch fully to deny Posta.Posta were the better side on the ball in the first half, with Michael Apundo and Benard Ondiek pulling the strings from the middle of the park for the Mailmen while Nzoia preferred to hit the hosts on the counter.Muema and the speedy Georson Likonoh combined well on the right, giving Dennis Wanjala a hard time but they couldn’t get something meaningful out of it.Nzoia could have taken the lead against the run of play when Posta’s defence gifted Hillary Simiyu the ball but the forward only managed to return the favor, gifting the ball to Kevin Opiyo. No team could manage to break the deadlock and the two teams had to go into the break level. On resumption, Omondi initiated his first change bringing in Dennis Oalo for Clinton Kisiavuki to try and push for all the points.Oalo brought more speed for Posta and they continued to attack just like they had done in the first half.Ibrahim Shikanda effected his first change moments later bringing in Ian Simiyu for Titus Kapchanga who had had a rather silent afternoon at Ruaraka.Omondi would then bring Jackson Dwang’ and Francis Nambute for Ondiek and Likonoh just five minutes past the hour mark.Posta were dealt a blow with five minutes to play in regular time when Muema had to come off injured and his place taken by Eliud Lokuwam, with Alex Luganji also coming in for Ezekiel Okare as Posta finished their changes.
