Xhaka’s transfer to Roma hits a granite wall

It has been rumoured for some time now that Granit Xhaka is already a Roma player with only the paperwork to be completed. However, the deal has come to a halt.According to Italian La Stampa, Xhaka has been the subject of interest from Roma throughout the transfer window but the club from Rome are currently unwilling to match Arsenal’s demands of a 23.4 million USD fee.Even though, reportedly, Roma have agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old – a deal for Xhaka to join Jose Mourinho’s side has for now been put on hold.Real and Manchester playing the waiting game for VaraneArsenal’s transfer activity indicates that they are planning for life without Xhaka – they have already brought in Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht and could yet sign another midfielder.After representing Switzerland at Euro 2020, Xhaka is due to return to training at Arsenal soon this summer and will want his future resolved quickly. As it all stands Xhaka’s future lies away from Emirates Stadium, although he has two years left on his contract.Xhaka has made 220 appearances since joining Arsenal five years ago from Swiss side Basel and in that time managed to win two FA Cups with the Gunners.The Special One is eager to strengthen his midfield and if a deal can’t be done with Arsenal – Giallorosi may have to look elsewhere to satisfy the Portuguese manager.
