Spurs replace their tricky Latino trickster with a new and improved model

Spurs have bolstered their midfield and dispensed of an unwanted player – all with a single deal. Sevilla’s highly-rated youngster Bryan Gil signed a five-year contract to become a cockerel while Argentine midfielder Erik Lamela goes the opposite way. The Spanish club will also receive around $43 million as a part of the deal.Sevilla have officially announced the signing of #thfc forward Erik Lamela. pic.twitter.com/gLCKw3AUpM— Hotspur Related (@HotspurRelated) July 26, 2021 The transfer of the 20-year-old talented winger Gil has been talked about for a while as troubled Spurs try to keep their biggest star Harry Kane and improve the rest of the team along the way. After a disappointing last season and the sacking of Jose Mourinho, Spurs are set to enter the newly formed Europa Conference League. Daniel Levy and the club will have their fingers crossed that Nuno Espirito Santo can guide the side back into the Champions League.Lamela has joined up with the rest of the Sevilla squad and coach Julen Lopetegui at their pre-season training camp in Portugal. Gil, meanwhile, is at the Tokyo Olympics with Spain and started in his side’s 1-0 win over Australia on Sunday.Tottenham have signed 20 year old Bryan Gil from Sevilla for €25m + Erik LamelaThis now means that EVERY player signed with the Gareth Bale money has left the club 👋🏽 Soldado👋🏽 Paulinho 👋🏽 Capoue 👋🏽 Chadli 👋🏽 Chiriches👋🏽 Eriksen 👋🏽 Lamela pic.twitter.com/7D19WILrlP— Football Fans Tribe 🇳🇬 ⚽ (@FansTribeHQ) July 26, 2021 Erik Lamela was one of seven players, along with Christian Eriksen, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Nacer Chadli, Tottenham signed with the money they received from Real Madrid for Gareth Bale. Lamela becomes the last of the seven to leave Spurs. He spent eight years at White Hart Lane and Tottenham Stadium, but in all that time, he never really managed to establish himself as one of the club’s key players. The 29-year-old Argentinian joined from Roma in August 2013 and made 257 appearances in all competitions. He has had his moments of pure brilliance but was often marked as a liability. His entire Tottenham career could be epitomised by the game in March when he scored a thrilling rabona goal that was later named Goal of the Season by the Premier League. It was as good as it got for Lamela as Arsenal ran out 2-1 winners – and the Argentine earned himself a red card to end a bittersweet day.

Upon his arrival to the south of Spain, the 25-times Argentina international spoke of his ambitions after signing a three-year contract with the 2020 Europa League winners.”I had the opportunity to come here when I was younger, but I’m over the moon that I’m finally here. Sevilla has been winning many titles recently, that’s really positive. I came here to continue that streak, to help the team in any way I can. We are all together. That’s my goals: to keep winning titles and to keep the club growing. To make the step up in the Champions League.”Gil, on the other hand, had a mixed season last term as he ended his loan with Eibar with relegation from the Spanish top flight. However, on a personal level, the youngster played regularly and showed plenty of promise, which is essential for a player of his age. He’s done enough to be considered one of the best young players in Spain and attract interest from England. The winger will link up with his new teammates, including his close friend Sergio Reguilon, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the conclusion of the football tournament at the Tokyo Olympics.

Spurs have done a great deal to replace an ageing tricky attacking midfielder with another. Will that be enough for them to improve on their last season’s showings is anyone’s guess after the number of changes that happened at the club.
