In a letter signed by the two club chairmen, the clubs are demanding unspecified amounts in the monthly grants from the league sponsor and the additional prize money they were entitled to get by virtue of reaching the Cup final.Gor who emerged the Cup hero are demanding Ksh. 2million while Ingwe Ksh. 1 million shillings for being the runner up.Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have threatened not to honour the Mashemeji Derby on Saturday as the federation is yet to remit the monies owed to them as the finalists in the domestic cup pic.twitter.com/sBb9J9GzIK— Jeff Kinyanjui (@Nyash88) July 30, 2021 “This is therefore top inform you that unless all the outstanding sponsorship grants and Cup sponsorship money of Ksh 2 million to Gor Mahia and one million to AFC Leopards is paid by 4.00pm, of 30th July, we will not honour the league match slated for Saturday,” threatened the two in a letter addressed to FKFHowever, FKF Chief Executive Officer Barry Otieno while sending a warning to the two insisted that there was no co-relation between the league and Cup. The administrator chided the two most successful clubs for blackmail and failing to furnish his office with official bank accounts to facilitate the transfer of funds.“First of all, there’s no co-relation between the FKF Cup and the league. That said, we wrote to all the finalists of the cup (AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia, Bidco United and Equity FC) and informed them the payment would be done by latest 5th August. We requested for the official bank accounts and as a matter of fact, Gor Mahia wanted the payment in cash, we declined the request,” he said.Imagine #mashemejiderby is happening this weekend and nobody is giving a hoot/ No aura. No nothing.— Zachary Oguda (@zaxoguda) July 28, 2021 Otieno who served as the head of communications and public relations before said the handbook rules which govern the rescheduling of matches will come in play if the two or one of the teams will not show up.“There are rules and regulations regarding rescheduling of matches and this should be done 72 hours before the match day. AFC Leopards as the home team should provide the venue, if they do that, turn up and Gor Mahia doesn’t show up then it will be a walkover in their favour and the vice versa applies too. If both teams don’t show up then it will be a double default and the league and competition department will meet and decide on the repercussions,” he added.
