No Neymar, no Mbappe – no win! Lille defeats PSG and wins the Champions Trophy

The French Champions Trophy was the first game of the season in France, but it still looked like the 2020/21 season – Lille were better and Lille won against mighty PSG without conceding, to win their first-ever Champions Trophy: 1-0. The Parisians were missing their star players like Mbappe and Neymar, but had plenty of other good players, who clearly were not enough to defeat French champions tonight. Lille won the French version of Community Shield (French champion against Cup winner) after PSG won the trophy for the last eight consecutive years. It was a fruitful and exciting summer for PSG supporters, with a bunch of excellent signings who provided spark among Parisian’s faithful, while it’s quite gloomy and doomy in Lille at the moment. French champions lost their keeper Maignan, steady midfielder Soumare, and manager Christophe Galtier, while other departs are still expected, but still, they managed to win and give their fans another reason to cheer.PSG supporters are clear in not wanting Pogba at Parc de PrincesSome first-team players were missing from the PSG side, like Idrissa Gueye (Covid-19 positive), Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos (injury), and Neymar (still on holiday), but it was still a strong first 11, with Icardi up front, supported by Drexler, while Pereira and Hakimi were handed their debuts, with Wijnaldum starting on the bench. However, Lille was not impressed with PSG’s signings, as they took control at the beginning of the match and had a chance through Burak Yilmaz, before the game turned into a battle in midfield. Fans were not happy about it, and it was Xeka who decided to end the stalemate with a screamer from the edge of the box in the 45th minute.#TropheesDesChampions 🇫🇷🏆 ¡Así encontraba la ventaja #Lille! After eight years in a row, PSG lost the Super Cup, but more importantly, Pochettino had a chance to see some other players from his squad, while the stars were missing. And they didn’t impress.PSG are taking on Lille in Tel Aviv, Israel for the French Supercup. No major action so far in the first 10 minutes, but Achraf Hakimi is being loudly booed every time he touches the ball…here’s why. pic.twitter.com/Cowg1xI42d— Zach Lowy (@ZachLowy) August 1, 2021 Israeli billionaire Sylvan Adams has brought the high-profile French soccer season-opener to Israel, and the Canadian-born entrepreneur says the host nation will emerge a winner from staging the contest regardless of which side lifts the trophy. But, the crowd in Tel Aviv didn’t appreciate Hakimi, as the fullback had publicly supported Palestine last May and was booed the whole match.FRANCE CHAMPIONS TROPHYLille – Paris Saint Germain 1-0 (1-0)/Xeka 45/
