Vihiga United take relegation grapple to Thika

Relegation battling Vihiga United head to Thika with hopes of getting a positive result against Posta Rangers when the two face off in an FKF Premier League match on Tuesday afternoon. With the league on its final lap, the race for the title, and survival have intensified and Vihiga are deep in the battle for a lifeline.Mathare United’s win over Sofapaka on Saturday increased Vihiga’s worries because if they lose to Posta and Mathare get a win over Kariobangi Sharks on Wednesday, the Mike Mururi-led team will drop to the bottom of the log and with some tough games up next for them, it may prove difficult for them to come off the base.United will be encouraged by some positive results that they posted in recent weeks. The 0-0 draw with Nairobi City Stars and the 2-0 over Western Stima temporarily helped ease their drop fears although they are still one of the top relegation candidates. The team’s main issue has been in attack and for the first time since January they scored goals in back to back matches even though their game against Ulinzi ended in a 2-1 defeat. This has coincided with the emergence of youngster Stewart Omondi who has scored in the last two games.📈|@posta_rangers and @VihigaUnitedFC on the log ahead of their clash in Thika#BKPL pic.twitter.com/rgQUv1RF8c— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) August 2, 2021 Posta on the other hand will be looking to build on last week’s 2-0 win over title contenders KCB. The team’s run in the league hasn’t been satisfactory as they have managed just just one win in six league matches. The team will also welcome back head coach Stanley Okumbi who has been in Ethiopia with the Kenya U23 team for the last two weeks. The two teams have met five times in the league with Posta winning two of the matches, two have ended in draws while Vihiga has managed one win.Vihiga United assistant coach Samuel Twago understands how difficult the last rounds of matches are but is confident that they can get positive results.”We are confident of avoiding the drop but we need to keep working, we need to rectify the mistakes we are making and capitalize on our strengths. We have to keep working and I am confident that by the end of the season we will be somewhere good,” he said.
