Barracuda Championship odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

An alternate PGA Tour field is competing for some much-needed FedEx Cup points at this week’s Barracuda Championship, opposite the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. A field of 132 golfers is at Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California. Below, we look at the 2021 Barracuda Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

The Barracuda Championship operates as the only Modified Stableford event on the PGA Tour schedule. Each eagle is worth 5 points, birdies worth 2, pars 0, bogeys minus-1 and double bogeys or worse minus-3. Richy Werenski returns to Truckee as the defending champion from 2020 with 39 points.

This is the second-to-last week before the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and presents an excellent chance for many in the field to work their way toward the top 125 of the FEC standings.

Taylor Pendrith (+4000)

Tahoe Mountain Club is a long test at 7,425 yards but still plays to a par of 71. This will play to the favor of Pendrith, who leads all golfers with a minimum of 10 measured rounds played this season with 1.54 Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee per round.

The Canadian tied for 11th at the Barbasol Championship last month. That finish is sandwiched by a T-4 and T-19 on the Korn Ferry Tour. He has the length to take risks and set up scoring chances to take advantage of the specialized format for his first PGA Tour win.

2021 Barracuda Championship picks – Contender

Joel Dahmen (+5000)

Dahmen has just one top-20 finish through eight events since winning the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. This is the most comparable field he’ll have played against in that time and presents excellent value at inflated odds.

While the finishing positions haven’t been overly impressive he has just one missed cut in his last nine events. He’s averaging 0.27 SG: Off-the-Tee and 0.42 SG: Tee-to-Green per round as a potential course fit to get back in top form.

2021 Barracuda Championship picks – Long shot

MJ Daffue (+20000)

Daffue is just 483rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings but looks to be the latest to break through on the PGA Tour at this event.

The South African has played just five professional events this year but all were on the PGA Tour, including a T-51 finish at the 3M Open. He had a top PGA Tour finish of T-12 at the Sanderson Farms Championship last year, where he gained 1.96 strokes on approach and 2.62 strokes from tee to green per round.
