The U.S. Golf Association announced this week that Merion Golf Club will host U.S. Opens in 2030 and 2050. That announcement also included news that a bevy of USGA championships are headed to Oakmont in the near future, but it’s the Merion assignments that caught our attention.

Lynch looks at those venue announcements for Merion, one of the shortest U.S. Open setups in recent memory, and wonders whether there’s a statement being made about the future of the game where distance is concerned.
