Matano not looking at rear view mirror

Tusker FC coach Robert Matano is not concerned about how title rivals KCB perform heading into the final two matches of the season. The Brewers who currently top the FKF Premier League on Friday opened a two-point gap at the top after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 at the Ruaraka Grounds. KCB on the other hand suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat in the hands of Vihiga United at the Mumias Sports Complex. The result means Tusker could be crowned champions on Wednesday should they manage to avoid defeat against Nzoia Sugar by either getting a draw or a win at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma and KCB loses to AFC Leopards on the same day.📽️| Here are our goals from this afternoon’s 2-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz this afternoon.#KenyaMilele #Brewers4Life pic.twitter.com/34P1u661Pm— Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) August 13, 2021 Asked whether KCB’s defeat in Mumias gives his team some breathing space, Matano was quick to dismiss the notion saying he is solely focused on his team’s performance. He added that focusing on opponents could easily distract his team.”I am not thinking about KCB and what they are doing. We are focused on our games, for us, it’s a game at a time and we want to win our games. We have to focus on ourselves because thinking about what the opponent is doing can easily make us lose focus,” Matano told Mozzart Sport.Matano was also full of praise for diminutive winger Michael Madoya after he scored the second goal on his second consecutive start of the season. The 2018 Kenyan Premier League MVP has rarely featured for Tusker this campaign and on Friday he started for the second game in a row and capped it with a fantastic header for the second goal.“I am happy with him because he has shown that he is now ready to compete. Previously he was not ready and that is why he was not playing right now he is doing well and I hope that he continues with the same spirit going forward,” he added.
