Karim opens up on financial struggles leading to his Gor Mahia exit

Burkinabe midfielder Karim Abdoul cut short his six-month stint with Gor Mahia after the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) drew to a close over the weekend as he cited financial struggles for pushing him to the exit door.Gor Mahia have witnessed their financial challenges being magnified this season with players staging frequent boycotts and a number of them already ditching the club before the closure of the season.Karim Abdoul exits Gor MahiaSpeaking to Mozzart Sport, Karim revealed that with the club undergoing financial turmoil he was forced to seek a new challenge after a tumultuous season. “When you are suffering financial problems in a foreign country, it is difficult. I feel like I cannot perform at my best,” he opened up,“The season was really hard and it has not been easy for Gor Mahia since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic because there are no fans in the stadium which means little revenue for the club but we tried our best and qualified for the Confederation Cup,” said Karim.Karim joined K’Ogalo from Armenian side Gandzasar and boasts of an impeccable CV having played in the 2009 Under-17 FIFA World Cup alongside Aston Villa forward Bertrand Traoré.Having played under Manuel Vaz Pinto at Ethiopian giants St.George, Karim revealed that the Portuguese gaffer is yet to contact him on a possible move and thanked his teammates for handing him the armband in his final game. “He (Vaz Pinto) has not contacted me, the better thing for me now is to leave because if your mind is not settled at a place it is better for you to move. I still don’t know about my next move,”“I have to thank my teammates because they decided to give me the armband on my last game, to wear the armband for such a big team really motivates you to give the best on the pitch,” added Karim.
