Burundi’s representatives in the CAF WCL CECAFA zonal qualifiers PVP beat their Djibouti counterparts FAD 2-1 to keep their dreams of progressing to the next stage alive.PVP’s coach Jumaine Niyonkuru expressed his delight at the team’s performance in today’s match.”We thank God for the win. Many thought that we were coming to score many goals but the most important thing is to get tbe three points. Our next game is the most decisive one for us and we shall do our best,” Niyonkuru said.His counterpart, Abdillahi Darar blamed injuries and fatigue in the second half for the defeat.’Today we wanted to win and remain in the conpetition. We tried our best and the morale was high but we did not manage the win.The second half was tough due to injuries and fatigue,” Darar said.Nicole Rehema opened the scoring for PVP, maaking a good run on the left and slotting past a helpless Rokiatou Doumbia just 22 minutes into the game.After missing a glorious chance earlier in the game, Rahma Aden missed yet a couple other chances in the first half.The goal by Rehema was a clear representation of the game situation, and the team from Burundi continued their dominance but FAD slowly started growing in confidence.FAD were dealt a blow in the first half after Houda Doudoub was stretched off the field of play and her place in midfield taken by Mouna Dabar.15 minutes after they conceded, FAD restored parity courtesy of Lerman Sikieh with an immaculate strike from the edge of the box.PVP put up a spirited fight in an attempt to restore their lead, with Rehema giving the opposing defenders a difficult time but Doumbia stood firm to go into the break even.On resumption, both teams came back with intent of taking the lead and perhaps grabbing a win but PVP did more to ensure that.Just eight minutes after restart, Rehema was again on the end of a beautiful pass from Peace Niyomwungere and did no mistake, slotting the ball past Doumbia again to grab her second of the game and and see PVP lead.The game was characterized with numerous stoppages, most of them coming from injuries and the medics, just like the players in the field, had a lot to do in the game.Rehema would have grabbed her third midway through the second half but Doumbia came out in full stretch to deny the lethal striker who was enjoying herself, toying with FAD’s defenders at will.Amissa Inarukundo had less to do in the second half, with much of the play happening in the opponents end.
