Title-winning captain Eugene Asike has walked home with the Defender of the Season award.The burly center back was the constant figure in the Tusker backline throughout the season and offered leadership to the team when Hashim Sempala was benched and when he left for greener pastures in Zambia.Asike, who clocked full time in Harambee Stars 2022 World Cup qualifier matches against Uganda and Rwanda was a class above the rest in the Tusker team and the league, marshaling the team to guard slim wins which turned out to crucial in their run to their 12th league title.Records indicate that the former Sofapaka man played 28 matches and scored two goals thanks to his aerial prowess in attacking set pieces.Bidco United right back David Kalama was named the first runner up thanks to the seven assists he managed his debut season in the top flight. The overlapping full back punched above his weight as he played 29 matches and was the best defender in creating scoring chances, he had seven assists to his name.KCB center back Nashon Alembi is the third best defender. The towering defender who enjoyed his first uninterrupted flow of playing time this season helped KCB have the best defensive record. He played 30 matches.Asike walks home with Ksh 300,000, Kalama gets Ksh 200,000 while Alembi hets Khs. 100, 000.
