FKF Women’s Cup: Wadadia,Kisumu All Starslets clash for semis berth

As the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup resumes this weekend, Wadadia FC and Kisumu All Starlets will be seeking to swing into action straight away when the two sides take on each other at the Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon for a place in the semi-finals of the tournament. After nearly seven months since the last action was played in the knockout competition, the women’s cup is making its return this weekend with four quarter-final matches on the cards and eight teams battling to be the first-ever champions of the cup competition. The preliminary stages of the inaugural women’s Cup were concluded in February but challenges arising due to the novel coronavirus pandemic saw the season forced into a halt as sporting activities were suspended. When action resumed, the country’s football governing body elected to continue with the regular league and eventually the playoffs for the women Premier League and the Division leagues, shelving the Cup matches for later. Now, since February, Wadadia who finished second in zone B in the regular league season on 19 points will be looking to find a way past familiar foes All Starlets who finished fourth, two points behind in the same zone.#cecafawclq victory over, Vihiga Queens turn their attention to the FKF Women’s Cup https://t.co/qzNHWJGVVO— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) September 17, 2021 Despite the action coming out of the blues with the teams having little time to prepare, coaches from both sides exuded confidence in their team’s capabilities to progress to the last four of the competition.”Despite being ambushed with the immediate announcement that the cup is supposed to be played, preparations have gone on well since we got back. We started training only two weeks ago and since it was a very long season, the fitness level of the girls are still not where we would love them to be. Nonetheless, we are confident in our preparations and we are going for a win to advance to the next round,” Wadadia coach Hassan Maloba remarked.”Preparations have been a bit hard because most of the girls stay outside Kisumu county. They are however in a good shape as they have been doing their individual training. We have had a small unit inside the county that we have been training with and I expect them to be the ones pushing the others in the game that we want to give a good account of ourselves,” Starlets coach Juma said. The match kicks off at 1400EAT.FixturesSaturdayWadadia vs KisumuAll Starlets – Mumias Sports Complex – 2PMSundayUlinzi vs Zetech – Ruaraka – 12PMGaspo vs Kayole Starlets – Ruaraka – 2:15PMBunyore Starlets vs Vihiga Queens – Mumboha Ground, Luanda – 2PM
